Ristorante Sant'Andrea — Restaurant in Taormina

The food here is absolutely nothing special at all and does nothing to justify the price. The hotel is very pretty, so the setting is nice enough. The service was brisk, but not particularly helpful or friendly. The wine list is simply stupidly overpriced. The wine was very good - but it's almost impossible to find bad wine in Sicily, but the prices were many times higher (for the exact same wines) than in other restaurants we visited. We had high hopes for this restaurant and overall were very disappointed. It was our first night of a two week trip to Sicily and we ate at the very top end to the simplest restaurants and, frankly, we found the offering to be poor. There were a couple of good places, but overall there seems to be a preference for far too much sauce and multiple competing flavours that don't really go together and a great emphasis on style over taste. This restaurant is a real showstopper. When you arrive the staff make you feel like old friends, flawless service throughout. The restaurant is set on a terrace by the sea with live music playing in the background.

The food was incredible, we had one of our favourite pasta dishes ever, the kitchen team have some great talent. The restaurant also has an excellent wine list and a coravin for champagne.

Just to note, our experience dinner here was so good that we choose to return two nights later to celebrate my birthday, and even the second time round everything was perfect. We were welcomed at the bar with complimentary champagne because it took them a short time to serve us due to being busy. We tried the tasting menu and every course brought a smile to our face.

The setting was lovely and relaxing. Overall, the staff was attentive; however, there must have been 6 different people either pouring water, serving clearing plates or taking orders, which I found disruptive. Too many people led to a mistake in my order. I ordered a steamed fish fillet and what was brought to me was a fish stew. The waiter was apologetic and told me he’d place a rushed order, but the overall wait was close to 25 minutes before the correct plate arrived warm vs hot. I wound up eating alone while my family had already finished and plates had been cleared by the time my dinner arrived.

My appetizer was average. The minestrone soup was not hot, very bland and presentation was average.
