I will never eat there again. Definitely, an excellent location and beautiful view, but I did find the treatment of my 24-member group insulting, for a lack of a better word. We were subjected to bait-and-switch

I made lunch reservations four months ahead and agreed with the owner to a typical Roman dish for second course of our 3-course lunch. When we arrived, we were informed he had made a mistake and instead had prepared a different dish (which we had discussed while making the reservation, but I had turned down), which was not typically Roman and definitely cheaper in value.

Given our time constraint and desire to avoid the embarrassment of an argument in front of our guest, we had no choice but to go along with it. However, when we received the bill, no apology or discount for the mistake was offered.

We paid the bill, gave the waitress a tip, even though in Italy a tip is not required (she provided good service and the mistake was not hers), and vowed never to go back there again.

So, what does this mean to anyone considering eating there? Well, seems to me that more than likely the owner of the restaurant just may take shortcuts where he should not. The view is definitely beautiful but will that distraction give the owner a chance to slip a low quality cut of meat...

This restaurant has a wonderful view and the food is definitely good. However, I would not go there again as the staff is very unfriendly towards tourists. First, we weren’t allowed to sit at the table, we wanted to. The next Italians that came in, were allowed to sit there (we know they had no reservation because the tables were spontaneously moved for them). It seems that the tables with a good view are unofficially reserved for locals. Then, we were ignored and only got the menus until after the locals who came in after us had ordered their food. We felt like second class guests. The waitress didn’t even give us a look when she brought the bread and other than all other guests we did not get plates for the bread. The waitress even got one reservation wrong, but we didn’t even bother to tell her, we just wanted to get out of there as soon...

This is one of the most highly rated, and highly recommended places in Tivoli to eat. I was worried that it wouldn’t live up to expectations, but it was great. The views are incredible. We booked a table for 8pm (using the website) so we could see the see the Temple at night. It was nice and cool at this time too. The service was great. And the food arrived very very quickly. I had the grilled beef fillet (medium rare) and it was so soft and tasty. The bread with olive oil and rosemary was delicious (I have to try and make it when I get home). The lemon dessert was on point. Light, refreshing, and not too sweet. The building itself overlooks the gorge (Villa de Gregoriana). It’s cut in to the rock, you can’t find a better view in Tivoli!

I rarely give five stars but Il Ciocco deserves all five. We debated on a few restaurants after visiting Villa Gregoriana as there are a few in Tivoli with views of the gorge and falls. We were so pleased with not only the view at Il Ciocco on its stunning beautiful terrace but the food was melt in your mouth superb! We had mozzarella di buffalo e prosciutto, lemon sauce ravioli, gnocchi, the filet and lemon delicia from lemons from the Amalfi coast and every bite was heavenly. Best meal hands down our whole trip in Rome, Orvieto and Tivoli. The wait staff was kind and attentive and filled our drinks immediately without even us asking them to. It’s a must visit on your itinerary. Bravissimo Il Ciocco!
