040 Social Food — Restaurant in Trieste

The waitress (working at the bar at 10 AM) was very rude. I do not speak fluent Italian but I do speak Spanish and English. I tried both of those languages and she looked at me like I was an idiot. I had asked for tè neri con zucchero. She said it wasn't available. So I said, ok... anything. She emit on to give me choices. I heard the word orange so I just said yes, that one... and a cookie (pointing at it in the showcase). She pointed at a coffee with milk in it so I just said yes, ok. Then she pointed to the cash register so I went there. I removed her of the cookie. She shook her hea head yes so I went back to my place at the bar with a glass of coffee to wait for my cookie. Well she got a little angry and was pointing to a gentleman sitting near the cash register. Then it dawned on me that the coffee had been for the man (even though I had been there first. So I apologized to the man and to her and offered his coffee to him (I hadn't touched it) but he said no. I also paid for it. The man was polite about it. He could see that there was confusion on my part. So the girl made my orange something tea and gave me a cookie. I paid for it. I took a sip of the tea which I didn't like so I took my cookie and left. I've been to 040 several times. They have always been respectful and kind. This was an outlier, but still needs to be noted. I recently visited 040 and unfortunately, I cannot give it a glowing review. Firstly, the prices were quite steep for what was offered, making the overall experience feel overpriced. Additionally, the wait time was incredibly long, which made me lose my appetite before the food even arrived.

Finally, when my burger did arrive, I was disappointed with the taste. It lacked the flavor and quality I expected, and ultimately left me feeling unsatisfied. While the atmosphere was nice and the service was friendly, these factors were unfortunately not enough to make up for the subpar dining experience.

Avoid!! Ordered two Caesar salads and two beers €42. Asked for tap water and we were given warm water and charged €3 plus for it!!? When questioned we were told they don’t do tap water yet the staff said “you want tap water?” Caesar salad was the WORST Caesar salad I’ve ever eaten - Cheap slimey iceberg lettuce, gristly hot chicken on the outside and cold on the inside chicken thigh not breast- burnt bacon, cheap Caesar sauce. Service terrible. staff very unfriendly, unapproachable and inattentive, did not ask once how our meal was and didn’t smile once or say thank you.
