Ristorante cinese Da Liu — Restaurant in Trieste

I definitely did not expect good chinese food coming to trieste and unfortunately the food here was probably one of the worst chinese food ive had in my life. DISCLAIMER: perhaps my expectations, as a chinese person who loves chinese food, may be higher than average. the fried rice with and without shrimp were quite bland with no wok hay. There was barely any shrimp and portion sizes were quite small which is very weird for chinese food. Typically we share everything so the portion sizes should be bigger the pork with salt and pepper was the best dish we had of the night. Certainly not traditional chinese food, but good crisp sweet and sour pork was straightup just flour and mush. The worst ive ever had mixed vegetables was okay but again. Really small portion sizes fried seafood noodles were just okay too. Missing the wok hay flavor.

The service was good and fast. Decoration of the place was… interesting perhaps in a bad way. It felt like it was pushing ‘orientalism’ in a forced manner.

Ottimo come sempre. Una garanzia da 30 anni. Anche se negli anni hanno cambiato i cuochi la qualità non è cambiata. I proprietari sono sempre gli stessi da 30 anni e quindi questa è una garanzia, sono sempre cordiali, educati, gentili, comprensibili, premurosi nel cercare la disponibilità per soddisfare i clienti. Per chi ama il Cibo Cinese o per chi si approccia per le prime volte lo consiglio vivamente, poi sarà difficile cambiare posto. Senza esagerare, negli anni ne ho provati tanti ( in alcuni ci sono anche stato male con stomaco e pancia) ma loro sono perfettamente all'altezza di quello che propongono. Ogni tanto c'è una sorpresa nel menu con qualche cosa di nuovo, il che non dispiace. I prezzi sono adeguati alle strutture simili, che forse altri non meritano, certamente anche loro soffrono dello stato Italiano in tema di tassazioni e di normative che, essendo rispettate ed osservate, non lasciano scampo se seguite; ci sono posti dove veramente, se si intravede la cucina, viene da scappare e sperare di non prendere malattie; forse l'adeguamento un po'all'italiana ha condizionato anche loro. Unico neo, come sempre, nei locali Cinesi il cibo ti arriva in modo strano, a volte tutto insieme, a volte prima il secondo poi il primo, questa è una costante, non riescono a coordinare le ordinazioni (forse anche esigenze di preparazioni) dei diversi tavoli; certamente una lancia a loro favore è anche l'esigenza Italiana, l'Antipasto, il Primo, il Secondo, il Contorno con conseguente tempistica; ecco appunto loro non hanno tempo da perdere nel concedere la tempistica tra una portata e l'altra, però almeno la consecuzione lasciatecela; siamo Italiani...

We ate here because of the great reviews, but sorry, I've been spoiled for better Chinese cuisine. On the plus side, it's in a quieter alley and not expensive. I can imagine people recommending this place but all the four and five star reviews are really exaggerated.
