I walked by Oh Crispa! one evening, very late on a a Saturday after sitting on trains all day. I was exhausted and looking for some food, but had already planned to go elsewhere. Still, I stopped to look at the menu posted on the door, found myself intrigued, and promised to return. It took me some days, but I finally came back to Oh Crispa! I stared at the door for a while, entering ingredient names into google translate, and finally entered. Immediately the owner approached me to ask for my order, along with a very sweet waitress - both of whole spoke English. Upon hearing I had never been there before, they suggested the traditional Chinese crepe, and I added chicken a potatoes. Both the owner and waitress were radiant rays of sunshine. Despite it being a busy night, and the space being tiny, there was space for one (perks of traveling solo) to sit and enjoy the crepe. While I can go into the simplest details describing experiences, I don’t really have the same talent when it comes to describing various shades of flavour... so I will keep it simple and say that the crepe was absolutely delicious! A great first experience for trying Chinese street food, emphasize by...
Read moreMy husband lunched there yesterday and had a pork guabao followed by spicy beef noodles. He said the bun was generous and tasty, but the noodle soup was a little out of place in its disposable bowl. He said he would go to Lao to eat the same noodles in a proper bowl.
I went today and had a quick lunch of pork shengjianbao and congyou banmian. These were the little things that I missed of Shanghai. The noodles were as I liked them - al dente with caramelised onions. They were a tad too salty, but tasty. The pan-grilled soup dumplings looked good and were juicy, tasting even better with a dash of black vinegar, but the proportion of filling to dough could be worked on better as there was too much of the latter.
The staff was very friendly and kind, I was kindly offered a chocolate-hazelnut bun for dessert - which turned out to be not too sweet with a good ratio of filling to bun.
The restaurant is small with high stools which I had a bit of difficulty balancing on. But turning up off-peak made the meal quite pleasant. The food is of a good quality so if you are looking for a quick bite it’s a...
Read moreTorino is not a city with many great Chinese restaurants, but this place is an exception. As a Chinese myself, I had no expectation walking into this restaurant, but walked out knowing that I'm coming back every week, if not every day. Their Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian (Noodles in brodo con brasato di manzo) reminds of my mom's cooking back home in Shanghai, so do their Cong You Ban Mian and Xiao Long Bao. I have also become acquainted with the staff at the restaurant through my countless times there, all of them being very kind people. Whether you speak Italian or English, they can help you with all. Some of the staff even speak French and Chinese too! I also had a few opportunities to meet and chat with the owner of the restaurant, a lady from Shanghai with a great sense of humor and a very amiable personality. In short, I can't find anything I don't like about this restaurant, from its food, its staff, to its environment. If I can, I would rate this restaurant 10/5, but too bad Google won't let me. I can't recommend more for everyone to go and try it out. I'm sure you'll love it as...
