This restaurant was recommended by the hotel and we were not disappointed. We had starter of mixed fish dishes dela casa followed by a pasta dish with mixed shellfish. It was the best pasta dish I have ever eaten in Italy. We will be back for more tomorrow.
I read other reviews of people complaining about unfriendly service and the lady was extremely friendly and helpful. I can imagine that she like many other Italian ladies won't put up with any nonsense. If you come in with an attitude then you will get back more than you bargained for. We loved this restaurant.
As a edit to the review above, we came back the next day for both lunch and dinner. For lunch we had a selection of Cicchetti which is a Venetian staple and similar to Spanish Tapas. This was very good and we left looking forward to dinner.
We came back in the evening and unfortunately we had quite a different experience to the previous visits. There was another lady serving and while she could speak perfectly good English ( I heard her speak English with other guests) she chose not to with us. She was perfectly friendly, she just didn't seem to want to speak English to these particular tourists. The previous lady had explained about the menu when we had asked, which was hand written in Italian. But as we had not had a bad meal we just randomly chose 2 starters and 2 main courses from the menu. I got prawns which were very nice but my wife was served a plate with 3 large servings of fish spread and a little bread, which was made from fish and a lot of fat. It wasn't bad but it was not exacly good.
The main course arrived and I received 3 small pieces of white fish with a white sauce mixed with what looked like mashed string beans. This was quite literally the most boring tasteless fish I have ever eaten. There was no salt available and it was utterly bland. Bland tasteless fish smothered in a tasteless white paste. My wife received a large plate of assorted fish, calamari and vegetables all battered and deep fried. Again this was not terrible, just very boring and very fatty. There was no sauce of any kind provided to dip the fish in, like you would get in Spain, France, Portugal or even other parts of Italy. We also had a desert which was completely unremarkable and a single glass of white wine each. The bill came to €127.
So to cut a long story short, the quality of your experience at this restaurant would seem to depend on what you order, who's serving and pure blind luck. It went from one of the best meals I have ever eaten in Italy to the very worst in the...
Read moreThis was the worst experience we've had in Italy so far, and my worst experience in 4 trips. It was recommended to us by a local, but I wouldn't recommend it to fellow tourists.
The staff was extremely rude to us, but delightful to other Italians. It was borderline racist, and I don't say that lightly.
I love handwritten menus, but the handwriting on this one was very difficult to read (sloppy), so I couldn't identify some of the ingredients. When I asked what various words were, the server was short and clearly frustrated.
At one point, they brought us olive oil and then scolded us when we used it for our bread, and took it away — haha! I'll admit to my ignorance that this is frowned upon in Italy (although no other restaurant has seemed to mind thus far)... But why not educate your customers? I looked it up afterwards and I understand now, but this is still no way to treat patrons to your business.
Now all this would be okay and I'd still give this place a good review if the food was good... But it wasn't. It really wasn't good at all.
Chef Boyardee from a can is better than that excuse of a ragu my wife was served. It tasted like a dollar store can of pasta.
And my seafood spaghetti was palatable, but there was one "shrimp" (an unidentifiable creature) and the clams were literally smaller than a penny (no exaggeration). The mussels had barnacles on them.
Maybe this is all normal and I'm the idiot, but I was unhappy with the food and even more unhappy with the service.
I've reviewed dozens and dozens of restaurants in Italy and the US, and I rarely leave a bad review (but I'm always fair). Read my other reviews and see for yourself. It takes a lot to make me unhappy.
If you're a tourist, don't spend your money at this place. They clearly don't want...
Read moreExcellent food, great atmosphere away from the crowds, good service and very fair prices.
I recommend getting a plate of mixed antipasti for the entire table and then going with one main dish. That way you’re not stuffed and had the opportunity to try multiple things.
The menu is handwritten and changes every day, week or so. This trattoria mainly serves seafood.
The lady who is doing the main service is working non-stop to accommodate all guests in the best way possible. She has a great humor and is a very direct person, however it might come off rude for people who are not used to this. It’s just different. I have to disagree with the other reviews about being discriminated against. Just remember, you’re in a different country, in Italy, in the region of Veneto. It’s just very different from what one might be used to.
If included in the menu, I highly recommend triglia con...
