I cannot review drink nor meals in the restaurant, because we were not allowed to stay :D
3 grown-ups, a manager, businesman and psychologist, with 5 kids varying from 1 to 12 years, decided to rest a bit and to have something eat, possibly (but considering the time and the kids, we would eat anything but worms :D ). It was starting to rain, so we wouldn´t want to leave, we would stay and spend some eur..
Anyway, we entered completely vacant restaurant, politly asked where to sit, and then something unbelievable happened. A lady responsible for the restaurant (I guess she was), scanned us with no smile, and said us in the eye, that we do not look like we would eat (sic!) and "... this is a restaurant!". She told us to go outside, to the rain. wow
We could not believe what we just heard! I mean, we weren´t sure we would buy something to eat there, you can never be sure with kids, but this was game over. We told her (politely and diplomatically) (or I hope so, because I left first for the sake of mental healthiness of my kids, as I was ready to give her a bit of an argument) that this is a joke not a customer care and left. Just few meter further we came across another restaurant, with GREAT people there, who let us spend our 200 eur for a lunch, there :)
I mean, Al Cafetier was empty. Maybe one table was used, inside. No way I will ever come near this establishmet, nor will my friends. So, beaware of the radar-eyes lady, leave your kids at home, or even better - go somewhere else, where they...
Read moreHello people with allergies I ate here two nights in a row just for you.
1st: all the big allergens are all listed. Each item says if it has gluten, peanuts, milk, eggs, etcetc. Front page of the menu is dedicated to explaining their allergens and any cross contamination risks too. Front page in italian but we all have google now.
2nd: 3 types of gluten free pasta (spaghetti, penne and tagiatelle) upon request. Just let them know "senza glutine" and they've got you. No GF pizza but they have GF mains and desserts.
3rd: great prices. Finally a restaurant that's not doing a highway robbery. Night 1 was spaghetti cabonara GF and a hugo spritz for about 15€ all up. Night 2 was tagiatelle al funghi GF, gin lemon and a baileys and ice cream dessert for 22€. No service charge, no price increase for GF. Both meals were delicious and I had fun.
4th: decent and quiet location. Has a bathroom, slightly strange rules but its venice and the buildings are mega old so we'll take it. It's just a good local restaurant, nothing special, so if you are travelling on a budget and have food allergies this is the place for you. It might not be as Nonna makes it but we're gluten free its not like we're gonna know...
Read moreWonderful restaurant with friendly service, great food and extremely quick service. Prices are very reasonable, and not overpriced. I highly recommend the lasagna! We ate here three times during our 4 day trip. Very relaxed and friendly neighborhood feeling restaurant in a not high traffic area. Right on a very cute canal with colorful buildings. It’s on a corner.
Indoor and outdoor seating. About 25 available seats inside and about the same outside. Restroom available for customers. Take away or dine in.
Staff and owner are lovely and kind!!
*This is my third trip to Venice and every time I come here to eat. I have had nothing but extremely good food and excellent service!! This time I brought my family and two friends with us. All my children and husband LOVED their food. My husband even said the lasagna is better than mine and he loves my lasagna. 😂 One of the friends we brought is from Rome and he put the seal of Italian approval on his pasta and the lasagna as well. So it’s not just me!!
*Came back on a 4th trip and we ate here again 3 times. Brought my parents. My kids RAN to get to the restaurant from...
