Loves this place the first two times around and came back now a few years later. And it's still the best place to enjoy cicchetti (or food in general) in Venice. And not just in Venice....these are the best cicchetti we've encountered in Italy so far.
The place still looks the same, feels the same...and the food tastes the same (in the best way possible). Most of the staff are family members, so the faces will be familiar as well. It's a small place with a few tables (to stand at) inside and three or four tables and seats outside. Get lucky or wait (and try to get lucky) for one of them. Most customers will stand outside thought in groups, having cicchetti, some wine and/or prosecco and talk. Which looks and feels very nice and relaxed. There are locals and tourists as well. Even though busy, it feels like another world compared to the rushing (but beautiful) streets of Venice. It's our favorite place in town.
The food as usual was excellent. You never know what masterpieces will be created or available that day. Here's some of the cicchetti we've had on that Saturday:
cured ham and parmesan fresh ham, blue cheese and dried tomatoes cream cheese and anchovies fatty bacon Salami and Cheese cream cheese and chili ham, cheese and olives bacon, parmesan and porcini mushrooms salmon Canocchia (annocchia or squilla mantis) fresh octopus (no cicchetti - just a plate)
Every item costs between 2-4 Euros. And all are worth their money. Products are fresh, of high quality and tasty throughout. Wine and Prosecco prices are low as well.
Fantastic place to eat. Be it for just a snack or a real lunch. Be aware of the opening times (only lunch) and it's closed on sundays. We'll be back...
Read moreOn the bar crawl that my boyfriend and I were doing in Venice, we stopped by here. This one in particular seemed to make it on many bloggers list when I was doing some research. It wasn’t too far off the Rialto bridge, so we stopped by. This was definitely one of the busier bars we stopped by. There was a bit of line to get to the counter to order. There wasn’t any standing room inside. We wanted to try out the cicchettis from here. It was so busy that they only had two cicchettis left. Everyone was ordering them and they weren’t making them fast enough to keep them stocked in the window. We took the last two cicchettis and walked outside for some room to stand. I will say that these were some of my favorites that I tried because of the bread. Most of the cicchettis in Venice were on larger soft bread, but here they were on super crispy breads. I did like this place, just wish it wouldn’t of...
Read morePerfect place for those looking for an authentic Venetian experience. Delicious “cicchetti” and “tramezzini” (typical Venice small bites). They offer different varieties each day like spicy turkey, ham with truffles and anchovies with gorgonzola. All of which were delicious and pair well with a Spritz. These guys are the real deal and were even featured on the Netflix series “Somebody Feed Phil.” Understand that this is not a tourist trap, so there are no signs in English or menus with pictures. However, the staff will happily explain each option to you in perfect English. You also might have to eat standing up as seating is limited (it’s Venice after all), but turnover is quick and spots are easy to grab for those who want to wait. Trust me, this place...
