The Rialto bridge over the Grand Canal is certainly one of the symbolic monuments of Venice. Right next to the Magnificent bridge is a beautiful Palazzo Dei Camerlenghi. Palazzo dei Camerlenghi is a Renaissance palazzo, located in the sestiere (quarter) of San Polo. It faces the Canal Grande. The palazzo was built in the fifteenth century and finished in 1488. From 1525 to 1528 it was enlarged according to a design by Guglielmo dei Grigi called Bergamasco, who was inspired by the style of Mauro Codussi and Pietro Lombardo. It was the headquarters for several financial magistrates, including the Camerlenghi from whom it takes its name, the Consuls of the Traders and the Supra-Consuls of the Traders. Due to this function, the lower floor was used as a jail for those who defaulted on their debts, the location near the crowded Rialto Bridge served as an admonition for the people passing by ( "Fondamenta de la preson" ). The palazzo currently houses the regional main offices of the Italian Comptroller and Auditor General ( Corte dei Conti ). Due to the Venetian tradition that, when leaving their post, magistrates would leave a religiously themed painting and a portrait in their former office, the Palazzo dei Camerlenghi came to house numerous artworks. Sometimes these paintings expressed social-political notions of civic virtue. These were removed during the French occupation, some eventually returned to Venice, mostly to the Gallerie dell'Accademia. Certainly once upon a time this palace looked much more sumptuous, adorned with rich friezes and elaborate cornices, enlivened by porphyry and polychrome marble: today we see only a reflection of its ancient magnificence, as it has been stripped of many of its decorations. The rich history and location make this Palace extremely significant.

In my opinion, this is a luxurious architecture and an interesting construction, if you look at the buildings from the bridge, it seems as if the buildings are superimposed on each other. however, there are a lot of people at lunch time, it is better to come in the morning to enjoy the view. At the corner (last photo) there is a ledge where you can look at the bridge without obstacles.
