Best restaurant in town. Spacious, comfortable, and welcoming restaurant. Clean bathroom. Very friendly to tourists and English speaking. We ordered the veal filet and the fried local fish. The veal filet was not what we were expecting. It was not punched or breaded veal, but was akin to a beef filet mignon. It was delightful. Juicy and tender, perfectly seasoned and cooked. It was a generous portion. The enclosed picture is about half. Served with some type of eggplant/vegetable mix that was tasty and unique and some artichokes that were delicious. The fried local fish was a mix of local fish cooked whole. The fish was tasty even with the heads and eyeballs attached. A generous portion of fish that worked well with the house made Mayo and a little lemon juice. Served with homemade bread and Sicilian olive oil. Attentive service that was at our table very frequently to check on our food and refresh our drinks. Reasonably priced. This was hands down the best restaurant in Venice...
Read moreThis was one of the more pleasant dining experiences in a good while. Everything about this Osteria feels authentic, passionate and personal. From vinyl Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett playing in the background to a charmingly simple but elegant décore the place feels like someone’s tasteful home you’ve been welcomed to eat in. With the significant benefit that they really know how to cook!!! The food was truly delicious, local, fresh and made with passion. The staff was charming, knowledgeable and dedicated to what they were offering. Finally the wine menu was extensive and creative. In the past I have had trouble finding excellent restaurants in Venice. There are so many choices and often the recommended ones are riding on past glory and have become tourist traps. Osteria Ai Assassini was proof that passionate and authentic cooking can still be found in this...
Read moreThis place had our hopes high given the previous reviews and ambiance. However, upon arriving the older man who seated us and became our server was nothing but rude. The experience felt rushed. When asking about the wine list, I was told white or red or rose even though that was clear from the menu. When asking for more details of local wines, no information was given. And once I picked a glass of wine, I sat with an empty glass the remainder of the meal when I would’ve happily ordered another. We felt ultimately ignored and unwelcome. As far as the food, the goat cheese ravioli with sage and leek and Panna cotta were both redeeming of the service though the prawn ceviche and squid ink gnocchi fell a bit short. I’d go elsewhere in Venice or at least hope your server is...
