We had dinner here one night whilst we were visiting Venice.
I called the restaurant to make a reservation, the person who took the call advised me that there was plenty of room and it was not necessary to book, I also requested a high chair for my child and was told no problem we cater for children, you don’t require a booking and that there is heaps of space INSIDE with AC. When we arrived, the manager looked at us, screwed her face up at our two year old and decided to put us outside because we didn’t have a booking, when I explained I had called she then rudely said that they wouldn’t take my booking on the phone as she deals with only hotels apparently, even though there was plenty of space inside. She was very rude not only to us but other guests around us too. She took advantage of thinking we don’t speak or understand Italian as she was making fun of other guests in Italian as they didn’t understand. Treated her staff poorly in front of people and was being racist when I told her that I had asked one of her staff members for water a while ago, she walked off and said some nasty comments under her breath which included the colour of the waitress, loud enough for people to hear. Disgusting really. Let’s talk pricing- I’ve eaten at places such as Bulgari Hotel in Paris, Atlas, Vue de Monde..so I am not fussed to pay but this is principle. I was charged 5 euro for filtered water from the tap which was luke warm, Pizza was charcoal. Charged “tax fees” per head which is common but a little excessive. Charged 18 euro for a spaghetti dish with sauce (no meat) for our 2YO after the wait staff told me 8euro, Unless the tomatoes were grown in Johnny Depps garden I don’t want to hear about what tomatoes they are, I make my own passata back home and have over 30 years of customer service/ restaurant exp. People like these should not be working customer facing/ take the hit and improve.
I would never go back there, regardless of any celebrity who has dined there. I frankly couldn’t wait to leave and only sat down because it was a bit late and I really wanted to feed my child quickly given the time we had already wasted there! If I could give a positive- The Waitress from Spain was a Gem-
My advice to the management- Quit trying to justify your bad behaviour towards tourists and your staff, learn from the reviews that people give you and improve your business, people spend a lot of money to come to Venice and don’t deserve to be treated poorly. Your business purely exists because of Tourism so lose the attitude and put your energy into being better at...
Read moreAfter endless times hearing about what a great experience Rosa Rossa provides, on my last trip to Venice I’ve decided to experience it myself; I am Venice born and grew up there but been leaving abroad for the past 20 years so naturally, when I come back to my city, I typically go to the traditional osterie where I know I can relate to and feel at home…., until when I discover Rosa Rossa. What an AMAZING surprise! This place, ran magically by a Venetian Family, it’s a delightful journey of subliminally crafted Venetian food orchestrated by Giammarco, a very talented 24 years old Executive Chef (although he likes to be called Cuoco) and the mastermind behind this amazing place; His creations are purely amazing and the expression of joy for the eyes, the nose and the palate… a truly sensory journey, based on local food carefully handpicked by Giammarco himself. I did not order from the menu instead I have asked him to delight me with his creativity; the results? A tasting menu of incredible gems expressly created on the spot by himself. The ceviche, to pick one, it’s a must and to die for! The orchestra could not run magically with the conductor alone, so to my surprise I discovered that the amazing service between the kitchen and the restaurant is managed and delivered by his sister Rebecca, whose attention to details ensure the experience is impeccable and second to none; Amongst this fantastic duet there is, allow me to say, the soul of this place, Francesca (Gina! She will kill me for this ), the mother of the amazing duet, an incredible character, a true Venetian, from a great noble family, who will delight you not just amazing stories of the city and its people dating back centuries but also for her amazing knowledge of wines and spirits that blend effortlessly with the incredible food. A must, is the selection of grappe and arancello and limoncello (spirits made with oranges and lemons respectively) made by Francesca herself! I went back two nights after with some local friends that were equally surprised and delight.
What else to say? I have experienced many restaurants around the world but never been delighted as much (mark my words, GianMarco will be the next Michelin Star) so, If you are looking for an unique Venetian restaurant with a twist and great atmosphere, Rosa Rossa is the one for you; trust the word...
Read moreOur recent dinner at Ristorante Rosa Rossa in Venice turned out to be an unfortunate culmination of our four-week journey across France and Italy. Regrettably, the experience was further marred by the dismissive attitude exhibited by the restaurant staff. The meal itself was highly disappointing, characterized by small portions that failed to meet our expectations. We initially intended to order more dishes after our initial taste, but the quality was so poor that we decided to conclude the meal prematurely.
To our surprise, the chef approached our table to inquire about our dissatisfaction, but unfortunately, their response was defensive rather than receptive to our feedback. It should be noted that offering us grappa as a gesture of goodwill does not rectify the unprofessional conduct displayed by the staff, nor does it imply an agreement to withhold a review. Subsequently, we perused the reviews that we should have read before dining at the restaurant, which has led us to anticipate unwarranted negative remarks in response to this review.
As avid travelers in pursuit of exceptional culinary experiences, we have enjoyed numerous remarkable meals throughout Italy, but, unfortunately, Ristorante Rosa Rossa did not deliver on this occasion. If the restaurant and its staff are unwilling to accept constructive feedback, it is advisable not to solicit it. We have communicated our dissatisfaction to our hotel, urging them not to recommend your establishment in the future.
Ordinarily, we refrain from writing reviews when a dining experience falls short of our expectations. However, your restaurant left an exceptionally unpleasant impression. It is disheartening to witness the dismissive responses you have provided to honest reviews in the past, reminiscent of the contentious exchanges witnessed on certain episodes of Gordon Ramsay’s show "Kitchen Nightmares" involving Amy’s Baking Company.
In conclusion, our visit to Ristorante Rosa Rossa was a regrettable affair, exacerbated by the lack of attentiveness and the unappealing quality of the food. We hope that this review serves as an opportunity for the restaurant to reflect on the importance of genuine feedback and strive for...
