Came in to a nice young hostess/server and an older gentleman server. I am in Italy on my honeymoon and speak 'ok' Italian. The older gentleman seated my wife and I for dinner, took our order for a 1/2 litre of white wine, gnocchi and lasagna. The wine came in no time flat, love it. The food however came much, much later. A family of 5, and 4 some of friends (all non-american foreigners) are seated after our wine came and order was taken. Both tables (all 9 people) received there meals before we got our food. We waited just under 45 minutes for gnocchi and lasagna, while others waited less than 20. Our server never even came over to ask if we wanted more wine after finishing our 1/2 litre, not too mention never stating our food was taking longer than expected. After finishing the meal, we waited another 10 minutes before I politely ask the young lady for our bill. The gentleman server (our server) came to our table and took our olive oil/basalmic vinegar away for another table shortly after we asked for the check. He came back a few minutes later asking if we want any caffe. He was completely and utterly...
Read moreWe were out that way after a tour. In my Google maps two of the restaurants I wanted to check out nearby were unfortunately closed as it was summer. But it was late and hungry. The waiters standing outside should have been a warming sign. The maitre was obnoxious and very impatient. We ordered natural water and he brought us frizzante and didn't apologize. I think he was also infuriated because we didnt order wine. My daughter ordred the taglioni a la Bolognese which was good but the cheese sampler and the black squid with spaghetti were subpar. We only wanted to order two dishes despite being three because in our experience pasta dishes for dinner at 10 are heavy and the maitre got annoyed so we ordered the cheese The bread was stale. My daughter ordered a coke and the maitre forgot. It is an authentic place and we say outside right by the canal that was the best along with the frizzante because weneere tires and hot. If around the area go to Al...
Read moreForget the overpiced, medocre food at the San Marco tourist traps. THIS is a splendid and authentic local dining experience. I went with the sauteed clams and mussels as the aperativo, followed by the lobster linguine: erano magnifici! It's one thing to assemble the ingredients of Italian seafood cuisine, but another to create a symphony of flavors like these, nicely set off by the house white (a nameless but perfectly worthy Valpolicella). And all for an absurdly reasonable price- 70 euros for two with wine and coffee.
Add to that the very welcoming and cheerful young staff (who tossed in prosecco before and limoncella after, gratis). They spoke a little English but appreciated our using broken Italisn. Best of all, the tourists don't seem to gave discovered this wonderful out of the way Cannaregio...
