I really loved this place before, but they’ve recently implemented a rule that doesn’t let you stay here and work, which is a pity because this is (was) the only place around Venice/Mestre where you can work remotely or study. I didn’t know about the rule, so I came this morning from Sottomarina to work here for a couple of hours. I wanted to drink nice coffee and work meanwhile. Then the waiter (this is not his fault at all, he was very kind) came and asked me not to use my laptop saying “You can’t stay here and work for hours.” I understand Venice has a problem with coffee shops where smart working is possible. I also understand that they don’t want people to pay for one cup of coffee and stay for hours. But I was going to work until I finished my americano, which was a big cup. I asked him if I could sit here until I finished my coffee, but I couldn’t use my laptop meanwhile, and he said yes 😂 I could have understood and said “Oh okay, I didn’t know that” and would have left after I finished my coffee. But why are you making me close my laptop? So absurd and so sad after coming here from Sottomarina and staying just for 20 minutes. Their coffee is good, their desserts are good but overpriced, and the place is located in a cute location. But I unfortunately won’t come back because of this policy. P.S.: This review IS NOT for the waiter, he was just trying to do his job. It’s for his boss who saw me use my laptop and sent him to talk to me. And for whoever else was involved in the policy process and lost loyal customers for the sake of keeping the tables empty and earning more.

Even though I bought half a kilo of coffee beans, they charged me extra for the 2 americanos I drank (Salesman didn't even offer me a cup of coffee). They also charged 4 euros for an americano instead of the normal price of 3 euros. Prices of coffee beans too expensive (60 €/kg)!! also. A place with no special features. They obviously advertised a lot and bought google reviews. Not recommended Edit after consume: I experienced a level of fraud in this so-called coffee shop that I have never encountered before in Europe. During my visit to Venice, I looked for a quality coffee shop and found this place by looking at Google reviews. Then I went out of my way to come to this shop in the morning (closed in the afternoon). I bought the so-called gourmet coffee beans because I thought they were of good quality. I have been making my own coffee with my coffee machines at home for years. Therefore, I know a lot about coffee beans and coffees, but apparently I do not have enough experience when it comes to frauds! When I opened the coffee beans I bought to grind them, I noticed the stale appearance and irregular size of the beans. I still wanted to grind them and taste them. So I put about 40 grams of coffee in the grinder and turned it on, I heard strange sounds and crackling, and then the grinder broke. The reason is that the coffee beans are hard as a rock and stale!! CONCLUSION: Definitely a place to stay away from! I do not recommend even walking in front of it.

I’ve visited 6 coffee shops in Venice. I’m not sure to rank this top or bottom. It’s complicated and personal. I like flat whites - a rare species in this town. According to smiley barista, only here and ….Starbucks (! Ergh) make them. Great start. Lots of attention to the coffee, these guys really seem to care. But - and I’m so sad there’s a but! - the milk was, IMO, awful! The first cup I abandoned after a couple of sips as it tasted like UHT (although the carton suggested otherwise, so maybe semi-skimmed?). But I really wanted it to work - friendly people, lovely spot - so I ordered my usual, an oat flat white. I checked the carton and was a little nervous as it wasn’t a Barista version….but hey, surely it’ll be ok? This was almost undrinkable for me. I took one sip and abandoned. Thin, oversweet, horrible. I’d have been better off at Starbucks. :( I realise (1) I’m in the spiritual home country of the drink I love, so I should tread lightly (2) this was easily the cafe with most potential we visited and (3) coffee is a VERY personal thing - my undrinkable is another persons unbeatable. But for me, this place has it all, except for the milk. Oh well.

I genuinely feel quite sad about having to leave this comment about Torrefazione, as it used to be one of my favourite places in Venice (I have often slept in Cannaregio just to make sure I had breakfast there!!). So why have I changed my mind? I have placed an order of coffee (approximately 60 euros which included an extra fee of 12 euros for the courier) on the 19th of September. To date, 25th of October, I am still to receive the order. I have tried to contact the store in many ways (multiples messages on their Instagram account, a phone call to the cafe, an email to info@torrefazionecannaregio and an email to admin@torrefazionecannaregio and a message through Google), the only answer I have received was a question: “have you not received it yet?”. No tracking number, no status of the order, no nothing. Also if I am contacting you, Asking for the tracking number, I would respond with that and not with a question, as it is pretty clear that I have not received it, otherwise I would not ask. Surely if they sent it via courier they must have a tracking number right? But that is not the only problem, their nearly total lack of communication made this experience go from bad to worse. Customers prefer clarity, always. If you have run out of coffee, say it, if you had an issue with the delivery, maybe add an extra bit of coffee and communicate the reason of the delay. Leaving a customer to wonder what happened, leads to a lack a trust. I have sent items via courier many times and it never took more than a week in the worst case. I always try to buy from small businesses, but when you get this treatment you start to understand why people turns to bigger competitors. In this moment I feel scammed, and fairly annoyed. So I would advise not to order online if you do not want to risk to lose your money. Really a shame!

EDIT: Not surprisingly after writing my negative comment I received the coffee today. Unfortunately none of the two coffees I received where the one I ordered. I also asked The courier which told me that for sure the package was sent out yesterday. So, they waited me to complain publicly before sending an order that should have been sent more than a month ago (for which I paid the express delivery) + they sent a different order. Not a note to apologies or anything. The only positive is that there is more coffee to make up for the delivery price. Overall remains a negative experience. If they ran out if coffee and they would have communicated it, I would have completely understood the situation and maybe negotiated an alternative. I hope they will fine this comment constructive so they can improve their service.

Edit 2: This is the only way I have to respond to the comment so I will do it here. Firstly, there is no custom between Italy and Spain as we are in The EU. Secondly, the courier told me that he was 100% sure that the package was sent the day before so do not use the courier as an excuse for the delay. Thirdly, you are also an e-commerce as you have a well developed website. Lastly, I never complained about the quality of your coffee, in fact I ordered from you because we liked the coffee very much! It is the ordering experience that was appalling. Better communication would probably have solved it without the need of excuses. If the service improves I will be happy to...

I went into this coffe shop happy and relaxed and got out stressed and angry. This is the motive I give 1 star. My experience may be very different from other people it may have been just timing.

The place is nice and cozy inside, the coffe was decent and there is many choices (i wanted to try a few more but I won't go there anymore unfortunately).

As I said above it may have been the timing, but we went there in a stress free, holiday and beautiful mornig. What we discovered when we entered was a coffe place fully packed where we entered the line and waited just for 15 minutes after being yelled to go to another line because this was the paying line. On the second line we waited probably 20 more minutes (I didnt even mind waiting as it was packed and I was on holidays) until i got to the front. Quite astonishing how I was treated by the barista, very rude and angrily demanding for green pass that I was already showing, I had to tell her to please calm down this is no way to talk to a person (didn't help). What can I say, got my coffee, had to drink it while standing up, no places to seat outside or inside. We went into paying line where the same employee was yeeling right and left to clients to get out of the line if not paying (i had two older ladies infront of me confused as hell not understanding why they were being yelled at), I received a few more angry yelling myself until I paid and got away as fast as I could.

Almost destroyed my morning going into that coffe place. If you like being yelled at, best place to go. If not, I...
