Ponte delle Guglie is an nice arch bridge, pedestrian bridge (footbridge) and masonry bridge that was completed in 1823. It lies near the western end of the Cannaregio Canal, and it is one of two bridges to span the Cannaregio Canal. Its real name is actually Ponte di Cannaregio, but no one calls it that, but Guglie because of the 2 obelisks on each entrance side of the bridge (guglie = towers). An earlier wooden bridge was built in 1285. It was replaced by the current stone and brick bridge in 1580. For those arriving on foot from Piazzale Roma or the Venezia Santa Lucia railway station, the bridge leads into the area of the Venetian Ghetto and the Strada Nova that leads to Piazza San Marco. The bridge is located next to the confluence of the Cannaregio Canal and the Grand Canal, near Santa Lucia Station.

The Ponte delle Guglie (bridge) is the only one to be decored with pinnacles, added after a restoration in 1823. It crosses the Cannaregio canal (sestiere of Cannaregio), the only inner canal of the historic centre to be crossed by public boats. The service on this is suspended in case of high tide, when the water raises and the arcade of the bridge becomes lower so boats cannot get trough. Last restoration was made in 1987, steps were redone (were in Tarmac now in stone) also a disable ramp has been installed, and it is one of the few permanent ramp in the whole city. The bridge is way busy being on one of the most important streets of the city, the Strada Nuova, that links the Piazzale Roma, train station, Rialto and Saint Mark, a little bit further on there is the Rialto market.

The stone and brick bridge was built in 1580. It was restored in 1641 and 1677 and was totally rebuilt in 1823 at which time spires were added. Further restoration took place in 1987 with the addition of metal handrails, stone steps, and access for the disabled. It is the only bridge in Venice adorned with spires from whence it takes its name ("Bridge of Spires").

This bridge connects the main venice island to the most crowded and residential island nearby. This is heavily crowded and most frequented. This is a good place to capture nice views of the river and the gondolas. This bridge has a facility to pull trolleys from the edges. Thats a nice humanly thought.

Especially crowded during the daytime, due to cruise ship traffic, but more relaxed after about 6pm. Watch for pickpockets and be sure to validate your tickets Very overcrowded. Will visit Other Cities in Italy again but not Venice
