Avoid, awful food, rip off scam. The waiters come across really friendly, recommending what they claim is the freshest fish in Venice - fresh straight from the freezer. The food was utter muck. When the bill arrived it included a 12% “service charge.” When I said I was happy with that instead of adding a tip, the waiter insisted it was actually a city tax and that a tip was additional. Just to get out of there, I added another 10% - so they walked away with a 22% tip for dreadful food. To top it off, the man on the table next to us started choking on his pizza, his wife had to perform the Heimlich manoeuvre, and he spat out a ball of cheese. Their whole table left their pizzas untouched. An absolute farce of a restaurant - avoid at all costs. Although if you’re reading this you’ve already been scammed. The location of the seating outside is nice but they play on this. Complete rip off

It was silent. Not in that hushed, reverent way that hidden gems hum — no murmurs of delight, no clink of contentment. Just the dead air of diners realizing, almost in unison, that they’d made a mistake. You could see it in their faces — the quiet chewing of regret. The liver and onions came swimming in a sad oil slick, the polenta dull and soggy, as if grilled by someone who gave up mid-flip. No seasoning, no care, no point. The wine? Harsh and characterless — a liquid shrug. Every bite, every sip, a small betrayal. Service matched the food: joyless, mechanical, and just a little gross. No pride, no warmth. Plates dropped like obligations, not offerings. It felt like they were punishing us for showing up. In a city that can dazzle at every turn, this place is a pothole in the pavement. Avoid it. There’s no charm here, no soul — just a pretty patio hiding a culinary trap.

Horrible experience in Venice, they try to take your money with basic tricks, don’t trust their discount of the fork! Here a list of things they did: - they double charged the service fee (in Italy is usually a couple of euros for them it was the 12% of the total spent) - we ordered a chicken with mushrooms (16 euros), they didn’t have the mushrooms and they gave us basic chicken that you can do at home with 0.5 euros. They still charged us full price. - we paid 4 euros a bottle of tap water Quality of the food was also very bad: baked potatoes were cold and the vegetables were not fresh. So we paid more than 50 euros even if there was a “discount” just for a piece of chicken and some vegetables. Embarrassing!

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU GO THERE! I have never experienced anything like this, to be kicked out from a restaurant where I was invited with a smile moments earlier! How did this happen? The children wanted to eat something (my wife and me don't necessarily, because we ate a hearty breakfast and we additional know perfectly that our children are picky eaters - they will eat a little and we have to eat the rest after them). I stopped with my family (2 adults + 2 children) to see the menu of this "restaurant". As usual, we were stopped by a man who invited us to come in and eat. We decided to entry. At the beginning I asked for a bottle of water and 4 glasses (the temperature was very high). The waiter gave me the menu, and I asked what he recommends - I always ask because restaurants sometimes have something extra(we like with my wife try new flavors). Not this time, the waiter quoted the menu, praised pizzas, seafood, etc., so I already knew that they do everything that others. We resigned with order dishes for me and my wife to and focused to children. Children like children - they asked for pizza Margherita and Spaghetti Carbonara. Here we come to a situation that shocked me. The waiter said that everyone must order at least one dish because if not, we have to pay for water and leave the restaurant!!! At teh beginning I thought, that I misunderstood, or the guy was joking, but no... He was completely serious, took menu cards from table and started arguing that this is the Chef's rules and that it is a standard in Venezia that everyone in a restaurant have to order at least one dish. I politely paid EUR 4.50 for a bottle of water and left the local. Together with my family, we have been to many countries in Europe and beyond, but we have never experienced such arrogance and insolence anywhere. When we left, the waiter shouted behind our backs that he was sorry, but that's the rules Boss and .... wished us a nice day. A real master of the feeling of atmosphere. The event in this place affected our further holiday plans. We did not return to Venezia the next day, although we had planned to visit other islands. People like the owner of this place, greedy and sick for money, unfortunately make that Venezia, despite that is beautiful and charming, is a place where you no longer feel like a guest or a tourist, but a "sheep to be sheared". I STRONGLY ADVICE AGAINST everyone any closer contact with this venetian circus called Osteria Al Pozzo Roverso. Only $$$ matters there, if you're not going to leave the right amount of cash there, you fly out the door.

P.S. A few streets away, the kids ate at Trattoria Da Gigi without any problems. The waiter had no problem with the fact that my wife and me did not order anything, so as you can see, the standard of throwing guests out the door is only in Osteria Al...

Worst experience ever very RACIST. I am Asian currently living in America, totally fluent in English and I can read Italian as I learned Latin. They immediately assumed that I will be totally ignorant. They never asked if I was okay with the seat they are assigning me. As I was reading the menu they brought the paper saying today's menu with no price indicated and indicating that there will be 12% service fee only in Italian when there are English written for the menu. Rather than using paper, I ordered same food directly from the menu with price indication. For the first one they said the menu was sold out, so after considering for a while I ordered another one. Then they indicated several menu that is not available. The list was exactly same as today's menu (logically then they shouldn't have brought that paper to start with and why in the world would they leave out the price!) Apparently many people from Asia seem to have similar experiences. Seems like this has been going on for several months now. I will never visit this place again and I would never recommend here.

we´ve visited Roverso two times. At the first visit we we´re really happy about the service and the delicious food we got. The 12 PERCENT Service Charge was in our opinion way to high but as descriped the overall experience was positive why we came again. This time we decided to try the menu with 2 dishes, one litre of wine and a bottle of water. From the beginning the behavior of the waitress was really different. The great and nice service we enjoyed in our first stay did not exist anymore. After the first dish we´ve waited more than 25 minutes somebody took the plates from our table. We felt discregarded because the waitress walked by at least 8 times to greet and serve other tables during this time. Probably it would have taken much longer if we wouldn´t asked another waiter while he cleared plates from other tables if he would mind to take our plates too. The second dish took all together around 35 minutes to come after we finished our first dish. Unfortunately it was really disappointing. The french fries were cold and the chicken was fried dead. Another strange thing was that we got charged one more coffee at the first visit. This also happened during the second stay on the...
