This osteria and wine bar, located close to Piazzetta San Marco, offers a mix of traditional and slightly modernized Italian cuisine. The atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming. The establishment features a distinctive logo—a lion’s head drawn in graphite—that adds a nice visual touch.
The menu places a noticeable emphasis on seafood, but it also includes a good variety of pasta, meat, and vegetarian dishes. I did not see any poultry-based options. Overall, the selection is balanced, with recipes that take some creative liberties while staying within familiar territory.
One of the more enjoyable parts of the meal was the cheese plate. The staff explained each cheese and recommended tasting them in a clockwise order, moving from mild to stronger flavors. The accompanying jams, made from figs and onions with a bit of spice, paired well with the cheeses.
The menu reflects seasonal changes and features dishes from different regions of Italy. During my visit, I had Paccheri, a pasta variety from Campania. I arrived shortly after they had removed Osso Bucco—a veal dish from Lombardia—from the menu.
Prices are somewhat higher than what you might find at a typical Venetian osteria or trattoria. Appetizers and first courses are often similarly priced, generally around €25. Considering the location and level of service, the pricing seems reasonable.
The bread served during the meal was not fresh, which was disappointing and inconsistent with the overall standard of...
Absolutely amazing culinary experience!! I made a reservation well in advance by email and always received prompt responses. When we got to the restaurant the staff very kindly greeted us and quickly said to us, "A table is coming up in a few mins," and sure enough - we were seated within 5 mins. Great first impression! We ordered these plates:
Scallops, chestnut purre, persimmon sauce, crispy spinach Selection of cheeses with assorted preserves Parmesan cheese, "vacche Rosse" selection, aged 24 months Grilled veal cutlet, Anglesey sea salt, barbecue sauce Spaghetti with clams Ravioli with truffles
I was speechless after tasting the scallops. ABSOLUTELY. STUNNING! I'd never tasted scallops that rich or delicious. Amazing. And every dish after that only kept getting better! The cheeses were extraordinary – the balsamic vinegar to dip the delicious pieces of parmesan was perfect – wow! The wine selection was extensive and well chosen. There was a small mix-up at our table because one of our guests jokingly said she was full after the appetizer, but the staff clarified and resumed service as usual. I can't stress enough - if you are in Venice, this restaurant is a must! I work for the largest retail travel agency in the U.S. and I'll be sure to request that this restaurant be advertised to our network of customers. This ranks as one of the best meals I've had - not only in Italy, but in my overall dining experiences. Thank you for the...
Read moreMy husband and I have unfortunately chosen this restaurant today afeter reading an advertisement in a prestigious magazine about Venice. I can only say: the form of the food served there toghether with the service itself ovegrows the content. One of these restaurants, that aspire to a name of a gourmet cuisines, but they do not know how to cook. The starter: dried code on artichoke hart and polenta bedding (15 Eur) was really awful. Really, the mixture of 3 insipid and tasteless ingredients (two of which in a form of a pulp) is too much for a person to swallow without a feeling of sickness. The only good thing was the fact, that after criticizing the dish I was not charged for it. The main dish I had was pasta with clams and orange. The ingredients very fresh and of the first sort. However, what totally spoiled the dish was enormous amount of organge skin in the pasta, which killed the aroma of clams. What aspired to a revolutionary dish turned out to be a total misunderstanding priced 18 Eur. To save the time of the readers I will not comment on the rest of the dishes, which were no better. The service: no...
