In 1807, a significant transformation took place as the majority of the canal connecting the San Marco basin to the expansive northeastern inlet of the San Pietro canal was covered, giving birth to what is now known as Via Garibaldi.
This bustling street, the widest in Venice, is a magnet for shoppers by day, and the finest popular restaurants and bars in the evening would leave one spoiled by choices. My partner, our friends, family members, and I decided on dinner located a few doors down from our hotel last Saturday.
Costello Snack Bar is a delightful establishment that stands apart from the bustling tourist spots, providing an oasis of relaxation close enough to look out at the water. It was such a wonderful experience.
Greeted by the staff, we were able to get a table outside. Their diverse menu features Italian cuisine with vegan and vegetarian options.
As appetizers (Venetian cicchetti), we decided on the Smoked Salmon, Garlic Bread, and Bruschetta. For the main meal, we opted for Risotto, Spaghetti with Pesto, Seafood Pizza, Lasagna, Tagliatelle with Bolognese Sauce, and Penne with Arrabbiata Sauce.
The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully prepared, and nicely portioned.
The staff is super friendly, great service and very reasonable prices. There was no cover charge.

Read moreA gem amongst the crowd, Snack Bar Castello was definitely worth the visit. An authentic restaurant located away from the hustle and bustle of the center of Venice, we enjoyed great tasting pizzas with a scenic view. The pizzas were excellent. We enjoyed the Margarita and Prosciutto. The pizzas are thin based and the dough was very good tasting. You even have the option of a gluten free base. The staff were polite and very friendly. Very good service in my opinion. To drink we had Prosecco (Ca’ di Rajo), Spritz and Irish coffee. All the drinks were good. The items were very reasonably priced and good value for money. Besides the good food and drinks you can also enjoy beautiful scenery of the Venice promenade and San Giorgio Maggiore Basilica. Atmosphere is relaxed, casual and no fuss. Overall...

We were FORCEFULLY seated and started off with 2 waters. For the record it was 10 euros. We ordered, by having 3 different waiters staring us down. We finally realised it was the wrong place and told the waiter we were leaving. They were insisting on us eating there and trying their disgusting food. When we left they made us pay the 10 euros for the waters which we didn’t even touch, and on top of that they didn’t even let us take the waters with us. I definitely recommend going next-door and wouldn’t recommend eating here upon my...
