One of the best places we ate whilst travelling Japan!
Instantly welcomed when we walked through the door which felt good as a none native. The restaurant was fairly quiet when we arrived and got progressively busier across our stay but service remained really strong throughout.
English menu's were a great help for us making it super easy to find something to get our teeth stuck into. We landed on a pair of set meals and some karaage to share. The ginger pork I ordered was delicious, and all the little extras that came with the set menu made it a great option. Clam soup was great, udon was very tasty and the pickles made a great addition. My partner had a pork cutlet with egg and sauce on top of a bed of rice. It was also very good! The Karaage we ordered was some of the best we had in Japan - a must order! The portion sizes were generous, offering great value for money, and we actually struggled to finish.
They take reservations, so I'd recommend booking if you can. We got lucky and didn't need one. I can't recommend this place enough if you're...
Read moreVery traditional Japanese restaurant. A lot of locals eat at this place. The staff is super friendly but they do not speak much English so it's a bit difficult to order and understand what you are having. They have a menu in English. The food was absolutely delicious. The portions are very generous and really good.
Be mindful of their traditions and respect their rule, try to read all the signs to follow the rules(use Google translate)
You have to take off your shoes to sit at the low tables and you need to get your water and tea from the server station. Staff only take the order and bring the food, so don't expect a full table service experience and be polite and patient when trying to communicate and order your food.
Totally recommend Yabu's food. Some photos of the menu items we ordered that we...
Read moreIf you’re visiting the Fujiyoshida area, Yabu is a great place to eat. They serve traditional Japanese food at great speed and price. They have many set meals to choose from that give you a plethora of different things to eat. I had the zarusoba and shrimp tempura set, which came with miso soup, a small salad, and some small vegetable sides. The soba was well cooked and had the perfect firmness. The tempura was fried very well, the batter was light, and the rice was fluffy. Another highlight of Yabu is the view. On the back end of the restaurant, you can see Mt Fuji from the windows. Many people walk from Arakurayama Shrine to Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine and this is the perfect...
