Great udon located in the basement of a shopping mall. I got recommended this udon restaurant by a friend who lived in the area for years and said it was her favourite place to eat. I ordered the most popular dish priced at 750 yen which was beef udon with burdock root tempura. The burdock root was cooked very well and complemented the dish really well. When ordering, there was a ticket machine, however, this was not in English. Luckily the main waiter knew a little bit of English and was very helpful when I was ordering. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was incredible with an open kitchen and all the staff yelling out orders, laughing and joking to all the people inside. If you want a true local Japanese diner experience, I recommend...

we arrived at 4.50pm and we were first in line. we dined in for an hour, but there still weren’t that many customers. store looked dirty and dimly lit. staffs were very friendly, although they can’t speak english much. no tissues provided. we ordered the burdock beef udon and all in one udon. burdock tempura was huge, which was really filling. udon soup was on the saltier side. udon was very soft, not firm. you have to buy tickets at the machine before sitting. overall a good experience although it isn’t something i’d crave and come back for. store is also pretty hard to find, its in the gourmet and shopping area...

Super nice udon shop ~ Super chewy noodles and gentle broth. Not so sure if the broth is based on fish or meat. Anyway the broth is well-balanced with noodles and vegetables. I got a udon fried burdock on top which is super super crispy. The fried burdock is so crispy that you can hear the crunch sound. I really wanna know how they could make those things that crispy.

And one more thing is that it’s not unusual to hear all of the staffs in a restaurant welcome you by saying “ee-rat -sai-ma-se” which means “welcome”. You will hear this in very cheerful shouting voice once you step...

The Mog Champ sends his regards. Daichi no udon is one of the most popular udon restaurants you can find and I think they live up to their reputation! The wait was expected since it's right under Hakata station, I think I waited around 20 minutes as solo eater. The food came out pretty quickly so the service was fast and it was also very affordable! So order a lot if you're hungry! It was probably the best udon I've had in a long time and it was super worth coming here! Thanks for dinner Daichi no udon! It was delicious. Mogliest Regards, Your Mog Champ
