We were looking for sushi and were kinda wandering around. I have high standards when it comes to sushi, whether inside or outside Japan. This looked like a tourist trap, it was in the middle of the week, there were only foreigners inside. However, I wanted sushi, so I was ready to make concessions.
Long story short: this is not a tourist trap at all. The menu for the specials of the day was only in Japanese, proving that this restaurant mostly caters to locals. Rest assured, they have an English menu for the all year-round menu, and the staff takes extra care in accommodating foreigners as well. You can always use Google-lens to translate the menu with the specials of the day.
My partner and I ordered the same sushi set for ~¥1,500. It was very good but it had a nigiri with octopus and a maki with firefly squids. I don't mind these, but they're not my favourite at all. I have to recognize that I knew what I was getting in for, these two pieces were in the picture on the English menu. I was still hungry after the set, my partner was full. I ordered à la carte. I ordered sushis with the white fish of the day, sushis with tuna, and ask for a custom order of sushis with grilled tuna. These were very affordable, around ~¥200 per sushi.
I was disappointed by the white fish of the day, it was a little tough and chewy. I'm used to buttery hamashi. However, the tuna was amazing! This was amongst the best tuna nigiri I've ever had, outside of otoro tuna. It was insanely buttery, almost as much as otoro.
The meal wasn't perfect, because of the white fish being tough, and because my own mistakes when ordering. I'm just giving 4 stars for the food because of the white fish. But the catering my request for items that were not on the menu brings this restaurant's service and overall score to 5/5.
Great place, can only recommend, I would go back if I had stayed longer...
Read moreOverall, a frustrating dinner experience. There are only 2 people working here, and even though our table only had 4 adults and 4 young children eating, the food came out randomly with one couple getting almost all their food before the other couple received some of theirs. Then there’s a pretty bad language barrier for English speakers, even with translation services. I ordered two 12-piece nigiri platters for my wife and I. Only one 8-piece came out. When I explained we order two 12-piece platters using Google Translate, they brought out 4 more pieces, of the exact same kind that was already in the 8-piece. I asked why there were duplicates, and they said that the 12-piece was just more of the same fish as 8-piece. I’ve never had that happen at any other sushi restaurant. Every time the pieces were different. The “select” plate had nothing special on it, so I would not pay extra over the “affordable” plate if ordering. Both families ordered edamame, which came out at the beginning for one family and after the meal was ending for the other one.
In short, I’m not sure what the ratings seem good for this restaurant. It was completely empty when we came, probably for...
Read moreWe are visiting Japan for the first time and know very little Japanese - so we were anxious going into this tiny little sushi restaurant with little ability to communicate other than the language of pointing and google translate.
We were lucky and managed to get a seat at the pass, and managed to navigate the menus (the main menu also had english so that helped a lot!)
We ordered our sushi and shared a Nigiri course (probably not the most common thing as both the girl taking our order and the chef had to double check we definitely wanted only one), the chef handled our odd order well and served the sushi to us from the pass.
The sushi itself was amazing - the best we’ve ever had. We tried new fish that we have never tried before, the rice was incredible and the maki with fatty tuna was beyond brilliant.
The staff and the chef (owner?) were all very friendly and forgiving of our cluelessness in some areas.
The pricing was very reasonable for the quality of sushi we were served. Overall we were raving about this place after we left, considering it the highlight of our big trip to Japan.
Thank-you to the chef and staff for a...
