you're in Hiroshima and craving authentic okonomiyaki, Okonomiyaki Mitchan Sohonten Orizuru Tower is a must-visit. This restaurant offers a truly memorable dining experience with an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs prepare each dish with precision and care.
From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen. The chefs work methodically and skillfully, layering fresh ingredients like cabbage, noodles, and pork slices onto the grill. You can see the attention to detail in the photo — each okonomiyaki is perfectly portioned and neatly stacked, ready to be cooked to perfection.
The atmosphere is welcoming and energetic, and the staff are friendly and efficient. Watching the chef prepare multiple servings at once right in front of you adds a fun and engaging touch to the meal. The ingredients look incredibly fresh, and the generous toppings promise rich, savory flavors.
Overall, this place delivers an exceptional okonomiyaki experience — both in taste and presentation. It's no wonder Mitchan Sohonten has such a strong reputation. Highly recommend stopping by when in Hiroshima, especially after visiting the Peace Memorial or Orizuru...
Read moreTouristic place? - Yes, but why not? I saw both locals and foreigners here so it ain’t hurt to give it a try.
• Queue - systematic like typical Japanese restaurants. Go to machine, press number of people and it will ask you to put phone number. No worries just press bottom left, which means “skip” and voila! Ticket is printed and queue number is on screen. Menus in basket on table so pick your orders as staff might come out to take order before seats are vacant inside.
We arrived around 6ish pm. and waited like 10 minutes only.
• Atmosphere: Air ventilation is good so I did not feel uncomfy like in some places with smoke from the grill.
• Get table over counter so you can see live okonomiyaki station. I never get tired of seeing this.
• Okonomiyaki - good with extra sauce and mayo on the side. Big bottle of mayo…impressive. • Grilled oysters - recommended dish but it was just ok. Oysters dipped with dry flour and grilled. Oysters were huge and meaty though. I think fried ones might be better. • Dry squid tempura - this is a surprise. Ordered it twice as it went so well with beer. • Draft Asahi beer - get one pint and...
Read moreThis restaurant is one of the few eateries you could find in the area. Besides, it is only 50m away from the streetcar stop Atomic Bomb Dome (M10), no wonder it was packed when we got there. The place serves typical local food, including Okonomiyaki and oysters in different styles. We tried a couple. Prices were on the high side, but considering it is so close to one of the most visited places in Japan, I'd say their pricing is still reasonable. As the majority of customers there are tourists, I noticed that some of the waiters/waitresses speak fluent English. You can see how tourist-oriented they are. One minor issue we had in that afternoon is that none of their staff offered me a basket for me to put my backpack in, which I had to put it on my lap throughout my lunch... Oh, make it two: the restaurant was so full that we didn't have a chance to sit right in front of the cooking table where the cooks show off their skill making...
