Teppanyaki Dontoko Mikawa-Cho Main Shop — Restaurant in Hiroshima

It was a fantastic and unique teppanyaki experience! As a couple visiting Japan for the first time, we spent our only evening in Hiroshima at Dontoko. I chose this place based on expat reviews I found while browsing Google Maps. Another reason was that I don’t eat pork, and aside from okonomiyaki, I hardly saw any pork on the menu.

The chef and his assistants were incredibly skilled and friendly. We ordered Set Menu 1, and we were already full halfway through, but we ate everything so as not to offend the chef. Researched through tabelog and google and went to this restaurant. We went in and the waiter said 2? We asked for a table in an hour as we wanted to get a couple of things and come back. He consulted the chef who then told him to tell us no. They were only serving three people that day... what a load of rubbish, particularly after we were offered a table which, after we asked again, was no longer available at that point in time. Waste of time going here and a bad experience and very disappointing. We spent our money elsewhere. I write good and bad reviews on places but this ranks with one of the very worst lasting...

By chance we found this restaurant...and what a find! This was the best meal we had during our stay in Japan. We ordered the set meal Hiroshima Special with soup, appetizers,, entrees and dessert. The food and the presentation were fabulous. Every course was delightful. The wagyu beef was done perfectly and melted in your mouth.
