My friends and I came on a Friday night for dinner around 7pm. It wasn’t packed, so we didn’t have to wait for a seat but two other tables were full.
We got guacamole and chips to share. The chips were a bit stale, but there was a nice added seasoning on them that made them salty. The guac was good but maybe too many onions for my taste (I hate onions haha).
I got the chicken waffle (850¥) and while it looked kind of small at first, I was so full at the end. The waffle was sweet and soft, not crispy. The chicken was perfectly fried and juicy on the inside, and there was a savoury white gravy on top. The red onions also added a nice crunch, which surprised me considering how much I hate onions.
My friends got the chicken Parmesan, pork burrito, and bbq ribs. My two female friends were full from the chicken and pork dishes, but my male friend was left still hungry from his bbq ribs, since it only came with 3 ribs, and not a rack like we would’ve hoped. Still, he said it tasted delicious.
The alcoholic drinks were also good, if you’re into alcoholic drinks. If you’re looking for iced tea (i.e. Nestea), you won’t find it here, or pretty much anywhere in Japan. The iced tea is literally tea that is iced, and you have to ask for syrup if you want it sweet.
The chef and waiter also speak English, they play English music in the restaurant, and the menu has English on it as well!
The only downside I can say is that there is an outside bench by the door where people like to smoke, and the smell will get inside the restaurant, especially if you sit near the door. I suggest sitting closer to the kitchen if you can’t stand the smell...
Read moreI hated this place. It is supposed to be a burgers restaurant, but I arrived 6.30 pm and they didn’t have anymore burgers 🤔. First warning. How come, one says. We sit down at 7 pm, food was super good. By 8.15 pm we ordered more food, and not only they were already out of veggie food but also they didn’t want to receive my order because the kitchen apparently was closed. If i would have known that the kitchen would have closed by 8 pm, one hour after I sit, if I’d knew before - I wouldn’t have sit at all. They should have told me before, when I entered. Also, Google Maps says the restaurant closes 10 pm, so the kitchen’s closure was so out of the blue, I couldn’t have known before that GMaps info was going to be unaccurate. If I’d knew, again, I wouldn’t have come here. Anyways they should update that info for sure. Since I insisted (because I was starving and it was just 8.15pm and I was having a great time), the male cook came from the kitchen with a super violent attitude to defend the message that the kitchen was closed. Scary guy. All in all super frustrating the situation. At first I had the best expectations, and at the end I felt really disappointed. The worst customer experience, the worst attention 😔. Nice food, bad experience, I would just recommend the place for...
Read moreMy visit to Canteen 23 in Hiroshima turned into a delightful lunch experience that exceeded my expectations. Opting for customization, I savored a burger generously filled with jalapenos, pickles, bacon, and cheese. The combination was nothing short of mouthwatering. My wife, preferring a vegetarian option, was equally impressed with her choice of vegetarian burritos.
What stood out remarkably were the French fries - they were a perfect embodiment of crispy perfection. The additional salt and seasoning elevated their flavor, making them an unforgettable part of our meal. Both the burger and burrito were crafted with care, their exquisite tastes leaving us savoring each bite.
While the service was commendable for its efficiency, a bit more warmth from our server, Steph, would have been the cherry on top of an already delightful visit. Nevertheless, the overall service quality did not wane and we left with plans of returning.
For those contemplating a visit, I highly recommend giving the fries a try; they alone are worth the trip. Canteen 23 offers a culinary experience that is sure to impress. Highly...
