Akimoto — Restaurant in Kamakura

📣tip: this place is hard to find. Walk inside the shopping complex. You'll see many food shops down a long hall. Then it opens up to a circular area with seats. The restaurant is actually on the 3F.

This place is small with a few tables and traditional tea room tables. Sign your name on the waitlist. There are seats to wait outside. The menu is not in English but there are only 6 items and all with large photos.

Get a shirasu bowl (they're known for this) and a vegetable tempura don. Yum!!! Both come with pickle, miso soup and sherbet.

There is 🚫🚻 no dedicated bathroom. You have to go outside the restaurant to use the building's shared bathroom by the staircases. This facility is really gross. I hope you don't have to use it 😄.

This place has an elevator but it's 🚫♿️ not wheelchair friendly 😭.

Like many other reviewers already say, the quality of the dish is outstanding, yet there're so many cons that I have to degrade two stars. First, expect wait for LONG hours. I mean it could easily go upto two or three hours on weekends. The first reason is that the restaurant has a rule of no seating together. There's a table which has six seatings but only one group is seated, which means there'll be four empty seats if the party consists only two people. That's just nonsense to me, though I understand the place offers upscale dishes and values atmosphere. I don't know, but that's just how they run the place. Pay is fairly reasonable. I enjoyed the dish but I'd be too impatient to wait two...

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! This was my first time trying shirasudon, and it tasted like heaven :) The tempura was fantastic as well. The chef was incredibly kind and welcoming, taking the time to introduce the dishes to me and explain how to enjoy them. I felt a little bad for arriving late and possibly causing some inconvenience, but I truly appreciated their hospitality and care.
