Kamakura Shokudo — Restaurant in Kamakura

My friends and I saw the sign for the restaurant on the street and decided to eat here for lunch. Upon the first bite, I was extremely disappointed that I had just wasted 1900 yen on something that I could've made 30x better and cheaper at home. And get this, the miso soup on the side...? Literally miso water. (My friends also were shocked after trying it.) It wasn't any better for my other non-vegan friends either. One said her fried fish didn't taste fresh, another said her ~1500 yen tonkatsu curry was ok but not worth the price she paid, one ordered ice cream and we could've sworn it looked exactly like this one ice cream from the conbini. I wanted to complain but all of us have bad Japanese and decided against it. I don't want to bash these guys, at least they took halal and vegan food into consideration and they're servers were nice too. I really hope this and/or others can get...

鎌倉駅前の多数ある釜揚げしらすの料理を堪能できる食堂の一つです。釜揚げしらすの料理の専門店では無く、メニューの種類は勿論、お酒の種類も豊富です。 複数の飲食店が入居する雑居ビルの1階にあり、周辺を同じような雑居ビルに囲まれているからか、店内は昼間でもやや薄暗く、落ち着いた雰囲気を醸し出しています。席数は30〜40席程で、カウンター席もあるものの大多数が4人向けの席で構成されているため、グループでの利用に適しているお店と言えます。スタッフを呼んでの注文も出来ますが、各席に注文用のタッチパネル式デバイスが設置されており、日本語以外の英語・中国語・韓国語にも対応しているため、外国人観光客でも気軽に利用できると思います（2024年8月時点）。そのような注文スタイルも手伝ってか、（私が利用した際は客はほとんどいない、ということもありますが）スタッフの接客対応は概ね親切で丁寧でした。 一方、給仕される料理はこの食堂ならではの特徴はほとんど見られず、盛り付け・味付け共に他の釜揚げしらすの料理を提供するレストランとほぼ同じように思いました。「どの店で食べても等しく美味しいと言ってもらえるように」という意思を感じます。

It's one of the many eateries in front of Kamakura Station where you can enjoy the cuisine of kama-age shirasu. It's not a restaurant specializing in kama-age shirasu dishes, but has a wide variety of menu items as well as a wide variety of alcoholic beverages. Located on the first floor of a multi-tenant building that houses several restaurants, the restaurant is surrounded by similar multi-tenant buildings, creating a somewhat dimly lit, relaxed atmosphere even during the daytime. The restaurant has about 30 to 40 seats, and although there are some counter seats, the majority of the seats are for four people, making it a restaurant suitable for groups. You can also call the staff to order, but each seat is equipped with a touch panel device for ordering, which is available in English, Chinese, and Korean (as of August 2024), so even foreign tourists can easily use the restaurant. Perhaps such an ordering style helped, but the staff was generally friendly and courteous (although there were few customers when I used the restaurant). On the other hand, the dishes served were hardly unique to this diner, and both the presentation and seasoning seemed to be almost the same as other restaurants serving kama-age shirasu. I feel that the restaurant's intention is "to have customers say that the food tastes equally good no matter which restaurant...

According to the website they have a Muslim and Vegan menu. None in sight and they have pork. Asked the staff and it was clear there was no such thing as Muslim menu since they clearly didn't know what we were talking about. One eventually signed X....
