金澤じんや — Restaurant in Kanazawa

This was my first visit to Kanazawa with my wife and son. We went to this restaurant because it was recommended by the tourist information center. To start, I will say that this place was very dull and plan. The atmosphere had not ambiance nor decorations to speak of when it comes to Japanese restaurants. They made no accommodations for a 1 year old child and the stroller we had with us. My wife ordered a specialty fish and we did not expect the face of the fish to be the only thing served. My wife, who is Japanese, did not understand why this would be the only thing served especially since it was the most expensive dish on the menu. She asked the waitress who didn't know how to answer so then she went to the man at the cooking counter and asked about the dish and how she is supposed to eat it since there isn't much meat to eat on it. He replied with a disrespectful and dismissive response. He said thats how it is here in Ishikawa and if she didn't like it then there's nothing he can do. My wife replied that the dish should be explained and that she wouldn't know what to expect since she's not from here and the man continued and said well I don't know if you are from here or not and it's too bad. This was not the type of costumer service I would expect from a restaurant to a costumer and even less the type of tone and reaction from a man to a woman. It was super disrespectful. We decided to live the dish on the table, grabbed our things, paid and left immediately. We do not recommend this restaurant to those visiting Kanazawa. It is a beautiful qnd history city and this kind of restaurant with these kind of people would ruin your visit and experience. DO NOT...

Shame on this place for their scammy policies that unnecessarily raise cost on customers planning to order a decent meal.... As if everyone coming will try to under order food. The sign saying "foreign friendly" is a sham too. Even with my Japanese partner, we needed help understanding the menu and were ripped off by ordering concepts I've never heard of like "half glasses of sake", all of which were absurdly overpriced. They also forced my primary school daughters to get the same cover charge and unnecessary 1 drink. Some of the food was OK, even good, but some things were straight out of the supermarket freezer shelves. Yes, this place is at the gates of Oyama-jinja, but is that an excuse to exploit...

We found this restaurant just by walking past. There is just 1x table for 4 people and a bar serving 7 people. We found the staff incredibly helpful as I have a shellfish allergy but can eat fish.
