Kissa Kishi — Restaurant in Kanazawa

Do you want a Studio Ghibli experience in Kanazawa? Cafe Kishi is an absolute gem. Coffee and cats. Kissaten with kittens. A place with history. Very charming, cute cafe hidden on a side street, tucked on a corner next to the steps of the Oyama shrine.

The owner, Kagatsume Masayo, is a lovely kind lady who had been running this cafe since 1969. Her brother, Katsuo, did the interior design - with hand-made benches, shelves and cupboards.

We had the toast and coffee set - a usual offering at any kissaten. Coffee was flavourful. Toast was thick with lots of butter and choice of 2 jams. Biscuits at the end.

The resident "sales managers" are Ayame and Milk. They are on the business card. Coffee and cats are the best combination.

Please read the little book about her cafe. It's so interesting, like a little time capsule and cute TARDIS.

Take a seat on the left corner of the bar. That's where you'll find Ayame curled up in a cardboard box. He's sleepy and loves a scratch on the chin.

You can tell Kagatsume-san loves her cats.

Friendly customers, too. Like a good local, welcoming izakaya, it's compact and small, so everyone sits on the same bar. Makes for friendly conversation and we met a local family who had returned for Hatsumode home-coming.

Kissaten like this is a rare find. It has soul. I encourage you to visit this cafe, or after your visit to the shrine, pop in for a tea or drink. It's a unique experience - very cosy, good coffee, calming and cute. Say hi to Kagatsume-san, and pat the cats.

MUST go here once during your trip to Kanazawa. The grandma running this place is all heart. The ambience is warm, homey and cozy. The food (toast) is made with so much love and the coffee is simple and delicious. She gave us little treats to take away at the end of our meal. 尾山神社の左義長の日、1月15日の冬の午後に訪れました。 ずっと来たかったお店でしたが日曜はやっておらずようやく来ることが出来ました。 ドアを開けると直ぐにカウンター席が並ぶ小さなお店。 まるでジブリ映画のようなレトロ感ある温かな雰囲気と笑顔の素敵な店主のおばあちゃんが迎えてくれます。

トーストと珈琲を注文。 カウンター席の上の小さな箱の中には看板猫であるアヤメ君がいました。 常連さんたちに可愛がられつつとても大人しく人懐っこい愛らしい猫でした。

トーストは注文してから一斤のパンを手に取り厚切りでカット。して食べやすく丁寧な切込みを入れて焼いてくれます。 焼き上がり、香ばしい香りのパンに丁寧にバターをのせてくれます。イチゴとマーマレードの2種類のジャムを添えて完成。 美味しくて手で食べやすいひと皿でした。

珈琲も深みがありながらも飲み口が良く美味しかったです。アンティークなカップがまた素敵でした。 サービスで小皿に3種類のお菓子(おかき、チョコレート2種)を出してくださいます。

45年こちらの場所でお店をされているとの事で建造物に歴史を感じながらも、常連さんは学生の女の子から街で働く人達など小一時間程の時間で入れ替わり色んな方がいらっしゃいました。 また来たくなるような素敵な時間を...
