Our meal at Paolo was excellent! We booked this dinner last minute upon arrival to Kanazawa. The chef, Naoki Ueda, was warm, welcoming and accommodating of our last minute request and dietary preferences. We had the fixed menu with antipasti, pasta pomodoro, fish and dessert, all of which were excellent. The pasta is made fresh in house, and we got to choose which pasta we wanted. Everything was fresh, delicious and beautifully plated. The service was friendly and detail-oriented.
We were surprised to find such an authentic Italian restaurant on our trip! It was a pleasure to get to know more about the restaurant’s history and chat with Naoki about his background and Kanazawa recommendations. He was easy to communicate with in English and was patient with our attempts at Japanese and Italian....
Read moreWhat an incredible meal! We were wandering around and decided we fancied something different for lunch. We had the set lunch menu that included an appetiser platter each, a pasta course (two different options each day), dessert and a drink. You could also add a meat/fish course. Everything was portioned perfectly and the chef is clearly very highly trained and skilled in his craft. With the quality of the food and the perfect pairings, you would think you were in Italy. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough and personally think it was very underpriced for the quality of the food and service. Please find the time to go if you are in Kanazawa. We both left...

We asked the chef to surprise us with a pasta dish each, and after asking a couple of questions to gauge our preferences, he put together one cream-based and one tomato-based dish with his home-made pasta. Delicious, comforting and not too filling! We even had room to share a dessert and highly recommend the pear gelato.
While Google Lens helped us with the menu and order, I hope that our smiles and limited Japanese/Italian conveyed our pleasure and gratitude for the yummy meal and...
