Ishida Kobe has been one of my most popular wagyu recommendations in recent years. I have a tradition, if I’m in Osaka I’ll make a 45-minute train ride to Kobe for lunch.
We ordered the A5 Kobe beef lunch 150g (8,800¥) and the Japanese black cattle lunch 120g (4,980¥). All lunch courses come with a salad, an appetizer, fried & pickled vegetables, miso soup, white or garlic (+500¥) rice, dessert (sherbet), and coffee or tea. The appetizer that day was roasted wagyu beef and rare seared wagyu. The chef asked if we wanted to split the beef so we can each try both cuts, we did. The seasoning provided with your beef includes, fried garlic chips, wasabi, pepper, 2 types of salt, soy sauce, and ponzu. They really covered all their bases. The A5 Kobe beef was amazing as always. The juices explode on every bite and the melt in your mouth texture is always exciting. It’s perfect with some ponzu or wasabi to really cut through that fattiness. While the black cattle steak has that bite of meatiness to it that gives you an extra few second to savor its presence on your palate before melting. I like to just eat it with a little salt or soy sauce to really bring out that extra flavor. My wife had white rice while I opted for garlic rice that’s fried in the trimmed & rendered wagyu fat. Yes, those meat pieces in the photo are wagyu fat. Worth the extra hour at the gym I guarantee it.
Recommendation:
Ishida has something for everyone, you can go affordable or splurge. Their lunch menu is fantastic for those who are looking to get the Kobe experience without break the bank. For me, my wife can’t eat too much wagyu because of the fattiness, can opt for the lower grade beef and still enjoy...
Read moreWe only had two pictures because we were so focused on the meat cooking. This is hands-down THE melt-in-your-mouth wagyu A5 sirloin beef. If you have 12,400yen (as of May 2019), you NEED to get this. Let me explain what melt-in-your-mouth means: when you take a bite, the fatty juices burst and coat your tongue/mouth and all you're left is the meaty goodness. If you've been to amazing steakhouses in your local Canadian/American city, you'll probably think the Albertan beef is just impeccable. HOLD YOUR HORSES COWBOYS, try this place and tell me what you think. For the price of approx. $150CAD, you will get an appetizer beef sashimi as shown below, a refreshing salad, and then the (ungh omfg must savour) beef. You'll then get to savor the moment and connect with our VIP here before the chef cooks vegetables, special konjac jelly, and bean sprouts with the left-over fatty pieces of the steak. Lastly, you'll get an ice cream and choice of tea or coffee to end your meal. Let me put it this way: my boyfriend and I would come here every day if it was as cheap as the ramen here. We also walked in because we couldn't make a reso the day of, and they were incredibly accommodating and quick to seat us on a Sunday afternoon! 15/10 would write a lengthy review like this after. Ps: my first time having wagyu beef. DO YOUR RESEARCH! We had a lunch menu similar to this in Ginza Tokyo and my boyfriend who had this delicacy before was so disappointed. Here, he would make a dinner reservation tonight if he could (and if our wallet allowed,...
Read moreThere aren't enough ways to express how incredible my experience was at Kobe Ishidaya's tonight. I hardly ever review things, but in this case, I felt everything was so good, that I had to make sure I got my opinion out there.
First and foremost, the waitstaff have to be commended. They were always very friendly and professional, but even beyond that, they were incredibly attentive. They made sure to time the preparation of the dishes so as to have the next course ready as you finished the previous course. They never rushed, and very clearly took pride in the preparation of the meat that most of us go there for.
Second, of course, was the food!! Honestly, everything was made to perfection. The presentation was great, and the taste was second to none. The vegetables served with the meat were fresh, and rice was delicious. The best part was that for the money, you truly got a very resonance amount of meat and you left feeling very full!
Lastly, the ambience just tied it all together. Everything was very neat, clean, and intentionally placed, which gave the place an upscale feel while still retaining just the right amount of warmth.
All in all, it's an experience that I whole heartedly recommend, especially if you came to Kobe and intend to have a cut of the amazing beef. I don't think anyone else who has been there would...
