Kenzo — Restaurant in Kumamoto

SCAM!!! Please be aware of scam running in this place. It is the first time we saw something like this in over a month traveling across Japan. Upon sitting they served us a miso soup, which we have not requested and later they put it as additional charge (around 1000 yen) on our bill. We accepted the bill not to argue with them. Unfortunately, such accidents shed no good light on the Japanese hospitality in general.

The food from normal to not good. The horse meat sashimi was frozen as if it was just taken from fridge. The grilled horse meat was cold, if it was grilled a while ago. The portions are meticulous and I am not sure how much you need to eat there to get full. Apparently there are better places in the city. Avoid this place especially if you are...

I walked downstairs and they immediately flashed a sign through the glass door that they were full for the night at 730pm before even asking if I had a reservation.

So impossible to tell if they don't want my yen because it comes from the wrong colored hands or if that's their default excuse to turn away anyone even remotely foreign....

Came here for all things horse meat and was very impressed with the overall quality, especially the bazashi. Their karashi renkon is also a must try. Very busy little restaurant so reservations are recommended. Would definitely...
