Wanted to eat at Mister Gyoza across the street but it was closed. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise cause I stumbled upon this cosy little joint. It’s run by a lovely couple whose food screams “homemade” in the best possible way. I got the chicken nanban set meal and was so impressed that I had to order another side dish - I went for the potato croquettes and they were huge! I think they gave me the regular portion that you get when you order the croquette set meal, which means I esssentially had two main courses for dinner. I was concerned about their policy of allowing smoking indoors, and midway through the meal, one of the diners lit up a cigarette. Strangely, however hard I tried, I couldn’t smell anything at all even though he was just two seats away. I guess they have an effective ventilation system! Can’t overstate how much I enjoyed this meal. I’d dine there again in a heartbeat.

The place is quite cozy with some bar area and some bigger tables for groups. The location is about 1k away from the nearest station and not far from toji temple. There’s no English menu and it’s cash only but the lady owner was very accommodating and patient. The food is okay, can be very salty, not particularly special other than the grilled stuff. There are a wide variety of dishes to choose from but don’t expect a big portion, it’s a bit like izakaya with no seating fees but you must order at least a dish, but it’s okay to order no drink. The ice water is particularly very refreshing. The prices are very reasonable and the service is great. No reservation required.

Hidden, warm and cosy spot, completely underrated and excellent food + great value for money. There are counter seats as well as a couple other seating areas away from the counter. They sell a full glass of sake starting from 450 yen. Definitely try the beef rib, beef and chicken tendons, agadeshi tofu.. we only had one miss and that was the squid appetiser (can’t quite recall the name or description in Japanese), but everything was ON POINT. 100% going back. We shared maybe 3-4 full glasses of sake & 6 - 7 dishes and spent maybe 2000 yen per person.
