Now i dont know what Google maps says about this Hotel now, but at the time of writing it was a '1 star hotel'. That really couldn't be further from the truth.
This quaint hotel sits a fair distance from the nearest train station, and even further from the prime Kyoto station with its JR and every other line. However, it's really something else in terms of what it has to offer in terms of quality and services.
When I finest walked in, i was greeted by a fairly premium looking lobby, quite uncharacteristic of a hotel I found on Airbnb for less than ¥6000 per night. The premium feel extends to the 2nd floor where you would be greeted at the lift by a staff who would gladly accepts bags for storage before check in. There is also a lounge area behind the counter of a very decent size with a microwave, bean bags, long table and a coffee machine. Flanking the counter is whwre the showers and toilets are, which in my opinion is the one downside of this apartment, as the rooms are on the 3rd floor.
The rooms while fairly small, attempt to save the user space by offering bunks and including a small living are before the TV to accommodate the claustrophobic among us. The bunks are solid feeling and offer 2 power outlets per bed as well as a curtain to block out the light and give you a more private feel.
As for the prized amenity of internet, the WiFi is surprisingly quick. I downloaded a whole season of HQ Jessica Jones (10GB) in less than 15 minutes.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for accommodation in Kyoto on a budget, provided they're willing to travel the distance from the train station and won't mind that the showers are one floor below. (Anyone who has seen pictures of the hotel on Airbnb, just take note that they don't do the hotel justice, it looks better in person.) Oh and did i mention there's a fully equipped convenience store mere steps from...
Read moreI booked this hostel based on its price and location.||Just a few minutes walk from the nearest station. You could walk from Kyoto station but it was very hotel and we took the one stop from there to reach the hostel.||||We booked a private room with bathroom. The premium hostel location is superb, you can see a 5 pagoda temple across the road which is quite impressive. It is very easy to get a train but we used the local buses to visit attractions which were nearby. The stop is seconds away! The reception has a few leaflets and you can book a bus tour around Kyoto if you wish. There is a small kitchen.||||So for location 5 stars.||The hostel itself is new and for the price I paid I was very happy. ||Just a few quick notes:||1. The reception staff told us they would be available until 10 pm that night if we needed anything. We went back to the desk around 8.30 pm but there was a closed sign. We wanted to book a taxi which was disappointing.||2. The room was abit smelly. Not sure it is from the drains or what but it was smelly when we entered. After we put the aircon and dehumidifier on it did seem to go and when you were in the room it was not noticeable. But if we went out and came back it was very noticeable.||3. Noise from the crossing outside...constant beeping. With the air con on it was okay.||||Good for a short stay and...
Read moreThe Garden easily exceeded our expectations. We (4 of us) booked via AirBnB and the accommodations were probably the best of all of our stays in Japan. The room was completely private with its own room key and each bed was enclosed on all sides with a curtain at the front for privacy. We could set the thermostat in our room, there was a fridge/ freezer in the room, as well as towel service. The common area had a full kitchen as well as a coffee machine, kettle, and cups/plates/silverware. Everything was super clean and organized and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
It was located within walking distance of Kyoto Station (convenient after taking the shinkansen in), the aquarium, railway museum, and Toji temple. There was a convenience store located on the first floor, as well. Other locations were one bus away (under 200 yen, some free with JR Pass). Would...
