If you ever want to have some fine dining in Kyoto, Washio-Cho Hotaru is definitely the one you should try! We booked the 8-courses dinner and we were amazed by the food quality, the balance of the favors created by all sort of ingredients and the way the chef cooks. Our favorites are the stone BBQ the tofu soup. Grilling the seafood raw in the hot stone greatly keeps the freshness and keeps it in proper texture. As for the tofu soup, they are all simple ingredients, tofu, fish and seasonal vegetables, but they combine well with each other and make the soup so refreshing! Also chef Uemura is so friendly and he also showed us his collections from other customers after the meal! It’s definitely a highlight in...
Read moreWe came in right before noon closing time. Yet the owner welcomed us in and took care of us. The internal space is small but the decoration is very fancy and you can see the owner cook the food right in front of you. Owner is quite chatty. It is quite an experience. The price is a bit expensive but consider the location, atmosphere, the experience and the food, it is well worth the price. Talking about the food, it is absolutely superb! Like an art! We ordered the bento lunch set, initially worried about the amount, but it turns out to be quite a lot! We left very satisfied. The meal is about 2000 yen, about just 20 USD. I would strongly recommend this place to everyone to give it a try if you like...

Each course was gorgeously constructed with attention to color, texture, shape. The sashimi was so fresh. And we tasted foods we never had before eg moroko fish. I tasted two kinds of sake. And there was a guest who spoke some English, who we befriended. At the end of the evening the chef took photos of us with parasols. So delightful! There are 8 seats at the bar so reserve in advance. Mr. Takeshita will do his utmost to serve you. You’ll leave with...
