All day dining "OPEN" — Restaurant in Kyoto

I stayed at the DoubleTree and added the buffet breakfast option, which turned out to be a delicious and well-organized assortment of Japanese and Western dishes. I am gluten-sensitive and eat mostly Paleo, so I appreciated there being two vegetable, a potato, three meat, and a baked fish dish every morning, although the preparations varied. There were also a fresh fruit and salad bar, five kinds of fresh-brewed tea, a coffee station, muesli, yogurt, and plenty of baked goods. I strongly encourage guests to try the Japanese dishes. The poached egg (eggs in Japan are fabulous, by the way) was a delightful new taste for me, and likewise the salted mackerel and tiny packages of rice and chicken steamed inside leaves. The staff are very quick to remove used dishes and refill the warming pans. Lost in translation. We went there as we were craving some European food but we waited for more than an hour to get cold food or even frozen food. We ordered a ceasar salad that came with tomatoes, a frozen egg and no chicken ?!?, my daughter ordered pasta with tomatoes that arrived after 1h30’, 7 pieces of pasta, the sauce was not prepared but just out of the can. My son a burger that arrived cold, with soft fries, we ordered the steak that arrived cold as well and with 4 broccoli. After everything c amo the appetisers :D what a disaster. The staff was in panic mode, no idea what they were doing. We asked for the salt…never arrived. We finished laughing luckily for how bad the whole experience was. I had an absolutely wonderful experience at OPEN during my stay at Double Tree Higashiyama The breakfast was outstanding—delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. Every dish was prepared with great care, making for a perfect start to the day.
