They take card payments here
We were recommended to go here from their other location, Craft House Kyoto, and it was an excellent recommendation not just for the great selection of beer but also for the authentic Japanese Izakaya experience.
From the moment we walked in the door, the bartender was obviously experienced, greeting each guest in the proper Japanese style and making sure they had the tap list visible and chit chatting as guests thought about their beer selection or needed advice for their picks. I really enjoyed this part of the experience, especially as the Izakaya got busier and more guests came through but we never felt forgotten.
The beer itself was very nice, and I particularly enjoyed Banana Chan, a banana smoothie sour beer which the brewery managed to pull off beautifully. While we were there, we pretty much managed to go through the entire drinks menu selection and everything was excellent and very enjoyable. I would also recommend the roasted barley sake which is not on display, but it's a magnificent drink for anyone who enjoys a good beer.
You don't want to miss this place if you're a craft beer...
Read moreThis was my second visit to Beer Pub Takumiya in 2 years and I have enjoyed both experiences. For some reason it’s tricky for me to find the bar in the back streets of Kyoto. Maybe you’ll have better luck.
The food offerings are good and fairly big portions so be aware, because the pricing is nice so you might be tempted to get 2 items of food, when 1 will probably be enough.
But let’s face it you are here for the beer. They are part of a group of breweries who promote each other’s beers and this means you are in for a good selection always.
They currently have a really great hazy IPA from Grandline (Episode 2) which hits all the right notes.
The staff have great banter and speak enough English to keep you entertained during your stay. I was particularly impressed with Imai Taichi as he went from table to table and conversation to conversation whilst going about his work, spreading the cheer and the beer!
The decor is fairly minimalist and it adds to the appeal of the brewpub. It’s one of my favourite stops now in Kyoto and I look forward to returning here on...
Read moreI was takling with some of the foreign guests and there was no bad feelings. I know there was an old japanese woman that did not like me but I didn’t talk to her or said anything to her. I had goodconversation with the others. After asking for a final beer I was told to leave because of the way I was and other guests . In a rude and impolite way. I know what I said and what my behaviour was. I listen to what other people say. You should see things from both sides and not only what one old hag says. I never experienced anything like this neither in Japan or elsewhere. I wasn’t drunk and didn’t argue. There’s no need to to behave as lousy and low as that. To have better judgement and better behaviour should be paramount here. I was rather annoyed and it...
