BONSAI 1877 — Restaurant in Kyoto

A cozy, western vibe of restaurant. The dark atmosphere is to our liking, the pizza was really good. We took 4 different pizzas; and honestly the margarita was the best one to my opinion, well balanced and tasteful. We were group of 4 and had no issues to find a table with no reservation. The only downside I can mention, and we know we came to dine in by late at 9:25 pm, is that the moment we placed our order of food and a bottle of wine, at 10 pm they have been told us that last order from kitchen is being made, which is totally fine. But since then, our server almost been came to ask for any last calls for anything else, dessert, hot drinks, and we were not done drinking our wine yet. While visiting Kyoto last week we wanted a break from Japanese cuisine. The concierge at the Hotel Mitsui( a beautiful awesome hotel) recommended this place. We entered and passed the stone pizza oven to go upstairs to a small room that seated about 15 people. The table was great and the seats were comfortable. We ordered pizza and chicken wings for appetizers. The pizza was fantastic with lots of fresh crushed tomato sauce and fresh mozzarello cheese. The wings were some of best ever ( and I cook them at home a lot). They had been brined so the skin was crispy and flavorful. Then the bolognese pasta was fabulous. Arrived just before opening at 11am, and though we were among the first inside, it filled up fast! Sat right near the oven and kitchen; it's a great behind the scenes view.
