We were visiting Kyoto for just one day. Suffering immensely from the blistering heat. Lo and behold, me and my girlfriend, near death, came across Cafe Arrietty, where we were greeted most hospitably, in fantastic English. We explained we were nearly dying from heat exposure and required something cold to drink. Minutes later we received the most heavenly nectar in the form of a strawberry and raspberry smoothie. We got one seasonal fruit pancake and one plain pancake with vanilla ice cream which was very tasty. We also got chips as a starter with ketchup and mustard, which again was very tasty. However, this place only accepts cash or Alipay or another Japanese app. He told us these apps won’t work with an international card so we had to walk to a local ATM to bring him some cash. Be aware before entering!

I think this was a bunch better choice. Lovely people, cozy atmosphere, and fantastically delicious food. I had the roast beef bowl and my boyfriend had the loco moco.
