This is a charming and peaceful little cafe, perfect for a break from the busy crowds. I’m not sure if the gentleman who served me was the owner, but he was very kind, and the two ladies working there were also wonderful. Despite the language barrier, they made every effort to communicate and ensure I had a pleasant experience. I would be delighted to visit again if I have the chance to return to Japan.

Lovely little kissa operated by a sweet couple of grandparents. It’s quiet enough with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere — the soundtrack of the café is the lively chit-chat of folks who look and sound like friends visiting. Pick your own cup from their extensive collection. Omotenashi can be found here. Leave with raised spirits.

I was in the art museum nearby and searched for a Cafe. I am glad I went to this one. As everyone mentioned the owner will ask u in English to pick ur own cup. I told him anything blue is ok. And he served me a very nice cup. He was very friendly with japanese guests they shared some conversations.

Importantly, Cafe the Vent Clair serves the best coffee we had during our 16-day stay in Japan. But what makes this wonderful cafe so special is the couple who run it. For the last 24 years they have collected beautiful bone china from around the world, and serve your coffee and breakfast in the cup or your choice. They oversee every detail of the preparation of your coffee, from grinding the beans fresh for every cup, to making delicious breakfasts. On Saturdays they crank up a beautiful 18th century music box and fill the small cafe with Mozart, Vivaldi and Bach. We went every day for our 6 days in Kyoto. On the west side of the city, visit on your way...

We went here today, after suggestion of a friend. Place is very nice, as well as food and drinking (we took cappuccino, tea and cake with fruits and whipped cream); one of the most curious thing is that you can personally choose the cup to use among a selection of about 200. But the best is people: owners are very kind and, even if they are not great english speaker, they help you with the menu and they are proud to tell you about the origin of their cups collection. One of their guest today was a good english speaker and he told us stories about Japan history and his adventures in our country, Italy. Very beautiful afternoon! Thank you our Japanese...
