Chinese Restaurant Ching Ming - Gion — Restaurant in Kyoto

We stayed 5 nights in Kyoto and have explored a couple of cities, landmarks and tourist locations in the region. We ordered 3 different dishes from here and I can say that it was one of the more memorable experiences.

The flavours were great on all of them. The service, decor and overall atmosphere added to the experience as well. We were just wandering the stores and streets in Gion and happened upon the restaurant sign and decided to try it out. I've bookmarked it for my next visit to Kyoto!

If there was one recommendation, in your tablet ordering menu, we didn't realize until after we had ordered that you can change the language to English. When we picked up the tablet, we had seen the purple button on the bottom right side, but we didn't know the characters that meant to change language. Maybe adding an icon could help other travellers.

Sc*m warning

When we got the bill we noticed it was extremely expensive compared to what we ate. They tried to charge us over 10,000yen extra to what we ordered.

First of all the man at the counter pretended that our credit card wouldn't work and wanted us to pay cash, then seemed nervous when we put our card in the machine ourselves and asked for the receipt.

Then when we got the receipt it was full of things that we didn't not order, and double orders of others that we did have.

Not sure if this is because we are not Japanese but be careful if dining here, make sure to double check your receipt and cheque just in case.

Pretty disgusting as they are probably assuming that people who can't speak Japanese won't notice or make a fuss when...

We looked forward to our meal here. To start we ordered two beers and two portions of peking duck. Waited to order our mains as we wanted them to come after we had finished the duck. What a lucky break we had. The "duck" arrived and was a prawn cracker with piece of duck skin on top, no meat. Really, had this dish all over the world and never like this. In order to avoid upsetting other diners we ate it in our one pancake each. We asked the waitress why no meat and she said only skin. Photo appears to show meat.
