FORNI — Restaurant in Kyoto

I would say the place is overpriced for what you get. We (3 people) had lunch there when we arrived at the hotel. While the staff was courteous enough the service seems to have some room for improvement. We ordered three main dishes and an appetizer for only one of us. They did not ask us about the timing of the courses nor did they make any effort to serve us in a timely manner. We ordered two bottled soft drinks and one bar made one. The bar one arrived first while the other two a bit later, but by no means in a timely manner. When the sparkling water bottle arrived and we told them it was to share, they did not ask me if I wanted some, rather with one drink already served they poured me a glass right away. This made it so by the time I had my second glass it was lukewarm and slightly flat already.

The main fish of one of us arrived much earlier than the rest. He had to start eating before, then the other three dishes arrived, meaning both my appetizer and my main dish were placed at the same time in front of me. The salmon appetizer was good but the white risotto was very little and slightly undercooked meaning some of the rice kernels were hard on the inside.

Dessert time didn't go smoothly either, with one arriving before the other. Then my coffee was brought and my dessert was mistaken and I was brought a cup of matcha instead. Another waitress noticed and they removed it without saying anything or offering any apology. Then as my coffee was almost gone I had to remind the waiter about my dessert which finally arrived as the other person was completely done with their dessert.

Overall considering the price range of the restaurant I would say it is overpriced for the level of service and the portions they serve. I would recommend looking for other options closer...

Absolutely lovely restaurant in a luxurious feeling hotel tucked away in Kyoto. We went for an evening dinner and the inner pond of the hotel looked amazing (in addition to the calming atmosphere inside with dimmed lighting and gas fires). The food was incredible - we had ordered the whitebait risotto (portion size on the small side) and the wagyu beef burger (larger portion size). For desert we ordered the strawberry and vanilla cake. Prices are to be expected from a 5 star hotel but for the quality of the food it felt appropriate. The service from the waiting staff was overall okay but they did make some mistakes (forgot to give us knives with the meals and gave us our mains before clearing our finished...

나고야 3박4일을 왔지만 도쿄 다음으로 애프터눈티가 발달된 교토의 애프터눈티를 가기 위하여 1일차 숙박을 교토로 잡고 2일차에 찾습니다.

지난 11월에 교토의 4곳을 다녀오고 이번에는 2곳입니다. 처음으로 찾은 곳은 호텔 더 미츠이 교토입니다. 인스타 피드에 가끔 올라오던 곳이었는데요.

미츠이는 미츠이 가든호텔로 그곳이 그곳인줄 알았는데, 같으면서 다른 호텔이군요. 이번에 예약을 하면서 알게된 내용이구요. 일단 같은 미츠이 부동산 계열의 호텔입니다.

도쿄돔호텔, 오키나와 할레쿠라니, 코하마지마 하이무루부시, 더셀레스틴호텔체인등도 모두 미츠이부동산그룹에서 운영중인 호텔들이더군요.

더 미츠이 교토는 메리어트의 최상위 그레이드인 럭셔리 컬렉션 호텔이기도 합니다. 국내에는 조선팰리스가 해당 브랜드를 차용하고 있습니다.

애프터눈티는 호텔 1F에 위치한 FORNI라는 곳에서 즐길 수 있는데요. 호텔내에 있는 가든뷰이지만 햇빛이 들어와 블라인드를 아래까지 내려둔 상태입니다.

호텔입구부터 로비와 라운지입구까지 모든게 럭셔리함이 묻어나 있습니다. 준비된 자리에 안내받고 담당서버분이 물수건을 건네며 인사를 합니다.

방문날짜가 1/11이었는데, 12/1~1/12까지가 [Xmas2022] 애프터눈티여서 크리스마스도 지나고 2022년도 지나 새해가 되어 끝물에 간 셈입니다.

그럼에도 피드에서 보는 플레이팅도 예쁘고 12시타임도 있어서 선택했기에 크리스마스는 지났더라도 괜찮다고 여기며 제 자신과의 타협을 하였죠.

TWG20종 이상이 준비되어 있습니다. 플랜에 2잔까지 포함이라 첫 잔으로 얼그레이 젠틀맨을 주문합니다. 차가 오기전까지는 테이블에 미리 셋팅된 교토맛차를 우려 내어 마십니다.

달콤 쌉싸름한 맛이 여기가 교토임을 말해주는듯한 느낌입니다. 먼저 세이보리 사각상자가 등장하구요. 스위츠 원형상자가 뒤를 따릅니다.

케이스를 직접 열어 보이는 퍼포먼스를 선보이고 안에는 2단의 스텐트레이가 귀염뽀짝합니다. 그리고 파티셰님이 직접 갓구운 스콘에 피자를 집어 디시에 내주십니다.

TWG도 나오고 샴팡까지 한 잔 주문하니 예술의 향연이 펼쳐 집니다. 비쥬얼과 플레이트가 가히 완벽 그자체입니다. 아름다워 한참을 사진을 찍습니다.

Xmas2022는 센스있게 Happy2023으로 레터링 해주셔서 신년 느낌으로 바뀝니다. 스위츠의 데코도 크리스마스를 살짝 줄여서 Winter만 남은듯 하구요.

사이즈가 아주아주 작아 하나하나 예술작품들을 보는 기분입니다. 피자포함 6종의 세이보리류는 특색있고 샴팡과 궁합이 딱이네요.

스위츠류 7종은 크림과 초코의 조합으로 최상의 맛보다는 어느 하나 뒤쳐지는게 없게 밸런스를 맞춘 기분입니다. 그러나 비쥬얼만큼은 매우 뛰어납니다.

솔방울은 쿠키 하나하나를 초코크림에 붙여서 살짝 잡기만 해도 형태가 흐트러질만큼 엄청나게 공을 들여 만든거 같습니다.

스콘은 교토에서 재배한 딸기로 만든 수제딸기잼이 조화롭습니다. 담당서버분은 수시로 아이컨택을 해주시며 케어해 주시구요. 직원분들이 모두 친절함이 느껴집니다.

결제를 마치고서는 정원을 한바퀴 둘러 봅니다. 날씨가 맑아서 사진도 잘나옵니다. 인스타에서 봤던 눈이 쌓인 모습도 무척 예뻤지만 오늘은 이걸로...
