An expensive Instagram-friendly restaurant at best...
With the amount of money it’s charging its patrons, you would expect at least standard Japanese hospitality, but I’ve not met a ruder server in Japan.
Despite having made reservations for one of the booths on the first floor, he took us up to the stuffy second floor. When we brought it up to him, he impatiently told us the booths were not available. He didn’t even apologize for not honoring our reservation.
When the food came, my jaws dropped as we just paid ¥1800 for a glass of juice, a bowl of soup, and three small scoops of rice with a few pieces of meat on top. To be fair, the meat was tender but they were paired horribly with unnecessary condiments. The beef bowl irked me the most. I couldn’t fathom over why they’d waste such good beef by pairing it with “la yu” (spicy garlic sauce). It’d completely masked the taste of the beef.
When we left, we were sent off by another staff, who had a much better attitude. At least he had a smile on his face.
Will not be coming back. Do...
Read moreThe best meal I had in Japan! The attention and service was outstanding! Like having a personal chef! The setting is beautiful and traditional. The food is out of this world and cooked right in front of you. You start with a choice of appetizer- beautifully presented and so delicious. We then shared some Waygu thigh meat - so tasty, juicy and tender, the aubergine miso which comes with both white and red miso, the fried chicken- so crunchy on the outside and juicy and tender inside and the edamame is also a must! If you are in Kyoto, you have to come here! Ambiance, food, service were impeccable and a fantastic experience! Also definitely recommend the fruit and veg ‘seika’ sour - I had the paprika and mango and it was delicious! Thank you very much to Makoto and the team for an amazing visit with delicious food! Makoto was very friendly and spoke with us a lot and his English...
Read moreI don’t come out to review restaurants on Google but Miyako Restaurant in Kyoto is a must if you’re in the Gionmachi area. Serious gem of a find. From the way they warmly welcomed us, to the way they tried so hard to communicate with us non Japanese speaking folks. It is admirable to see these young people work so diligently to serve up one of the best meals we had in Japan this past 2 weeks.
The food was presented in the most beautiful platter and I must say the food was absolutely yummy! Despite the full house and constant output from the kitchen, the quality of the cook did not disappoint. Personal favourites are the smoked Edamame, Corn Tempura and Zucchini with tea salt. Don’t miss out on the wagyu steak as well.
What made the experience so special was the personalised service. They made us feel so welcome and at home.
Keep up the great work Miyako, we...
