Came here for lunch on a weekday over the summer and it was busy packed, even before it was open. Luckily both my mom and I were able to be seated in the restaurant and cool down from the Kyoto heat. This was our first dining experience in Kyoto where we had to take off our shoes and walk through the restaurant with our socks. So if you plan on visiting this place, dress accordingly.
I enjoyed the interior decor, everything was brightly lit even though there's no windows. The wooden furniture and accents complement the restaurant as a whole and it really makes the interior very welcoming and homey. I ordered the braised pork belly and my mom ordered the grilled mackerel. Each order you place will come with a edobitsu, which is essentially a traditional rice container that absorbs excess moisture. You will just scoop whoever much rice you want to eat onto your own bowl once your food arrives. As far as the food goes, it's decent but nothing too extravagant. I wanted to try it on the basis of someone's recommendation but it's something of an experience.
