Ramen Uroko was located right next to my hostel, and thank the good Lord Jesus Christ. I ended up in here a few times, as I needed a nightcap bowl of ramen after ripping 20k+ steps a day in Kyoto.
It’s an unassuming spot that just serves BANGIN ramen. Each time I came in, it was just me and a handful of people. After a long day, this is exactly what I need.
I wanna just walk in, order my food at the little ramen machine, eat, scroll my phone a bit, and then leave. I don’t want to wait in a line at a super popular spot, shoulder to shoulder with others. I can’t recharge like that. I could breathe in here. I could think in here.
Over my couple trips I ended up trying the Shoyu Ramen (soy sauce base), the Shio Ramen, the gyoza, the fried rice, and the chicken tempura. The noodles in this ramen turned out to be top 3 of my trip, as the texture was perfect and they were a little thicker than most other ramen noodles I tried, which I loved. They’re locked in. This is one of the spots I’m already yearning to get back to as I clock back into my 9-5 as we speak.
When I return one day, my starting lineup will be the Shoyu Ramen, fried rice, and chicken tempura. THE BIG 3!

Read moreI went here for lunch on weekdays. Not many people at that time.
I order tamari-shoyu ramen Tanari shoyu is a kind of thick shoyu know for its condensed umami from soy bean. Color of soup is dark, but flavor is very gentle and subtle. It enhances sweetness and umsmi of dhoyu without excess saliness or acidity. Oil in soup does not feel oily. A beautiful combination and expression of taste. Bonito is on the top, unstead of added as a stock. So you can enjoy flavor change from shoyu soup and shoyu soup after bonito infused and has smoky aroma. Well play.
Noodle is soba tyle, a bit aldante, and not straight. So you naturally chew it a while, enjoy the flavor in mouth longer cthan other type of noodles. I was less impressed by chashu pork, but the taste was fairly good.
I’ll try shio...
Read moreWe were warmly greeted and allowed to park our rental bikes in front of the shop. This is a more contemporary take on a ramen shop so expect a black accents contrasting crisp clear wood interior, youthful staff and r'n'b on the speakers. The food is original but seems to be strongly rooted in tradition. The look of their ramen dishes, especially the black shoyu based broth, may be unusual for some but rest assured, they are very flavorful and refined with great depth! The pork cuts are thin and tasty, the ramen have a lovely firm consistency and a pleasingly organic shape and colour. There wasn't a huge crowd at lunch so we considered this shop...
