Master Kuwabara of Kyoto Samurai is an exceptional teacher whose kindness and passion for samurai culture are truly inspiring. From the moment you step into his dojo, you can feel his deep respect and reverence for the traditions of the samurai. His incredible skill, honed over years of practice, is matched only by his patience and willingness to share his knowledge with students of all levels.

Master Kuwabara’s teaching style is both encouraging and insightful, ensuring that each student not only learns the techniques but also understands the cultural and historical significance behind them. His genuine love for samurai culture shines through in every lesson, making the experience not just about mastering the art, but about connecting with the spirit of the samurai. Whether you are a beginner or have some experience, training with Master Kuwabara is a journey that will deepen your appreciation for this rich and...

The activities were fun and engaging, but 1 star for staff (details below).

My wife and I booked the Samurai sword experience, which involved 45 mins of training at a local dojo followed by a tour of the museum. The dojo master was really awesome, and we had an amazing time learning from him (A+ experience here).

Everything turned sour at the second half of the experience, which involved a tour of the museum. The person leading the tour was blatantly rude to me and my wife, ignoring us on multiple occasions. Example: he asked every other group questions, but chose to ignore us for what I can only assume is the color of our skin. He also repeatedly ignored questions we asked him. We felt belittled - this is not something anyone should go through.

We encourage the authorities of this place to look into the matter further. Train your staff to not be racist.

For reference: Date:...

Truly magical! Arigato Gozaimasu, Sensei! Totally worth the full samurai experience!

I meant to write this as soon as I left my MAGICAL session, but I forgot and then spent way too long trying to remember exactly where I had been. This lesson and performance was a definite highlight of my trip, and I felt my skills really increasing.

Tragically, my treasured certificate went missing that night (I blame the sake at a sushi restaurant), so if the Sensei would be at all graciously willing to send me another in America, I would be most appreciative and willing to cover all shipping costs! It would be a great source of self confidence and pride to see it on my wall in the States.

I would love to get back in touch!

Again, I cannot recommend this experience specifically with this sensei enough! He is a true master and a gifted teacher who takes amazing videos and photos as...

My wife and I came here on our honeymoon, and this experience has been the absolute highlight of our trip. Master Kuwabara is not only a true master of his craft, but also one of the kindest and most genuine people we have ever met. He welcomed us warmly and shared his culture with such passion, patience, and sincerity that it felt deeply personal. The way he guided us through the experience created lasting memories that my wife and I will treasure forever. It wasn’t just about wearing the armor or seeing a performance — it was about the connection he built with us, the respect he showed, and the honor he carried as a samurai. This was more than an activity; it was a meaningful encounter that touched both of us and made our honeymoon truly unforgettable. We would recommend this to anyone, and we want to come back to Japan just to see him again.
