I ate at an off time before they closed for lunch on a weekday after arriving from Tokyo. I was sat right away and there were only a few other customers. It was a charming, very clean and well appointed space. I ordered a set meal with dumplings, miso soup, rice and pickled vegetables. I also ordered potato salad as an additional side. My meal was delicious, and every morsel appreciated. The staff was helpful though mostly hands off, there is even self serve water, so you can eat and manage your drink with little interaction for all the introverts/foreigners. I noticed on the way out a sign (in both English and one in Japaneses) that provided information on their chosen ingredients and said this location was Michelin Bib Gourmand recommended . I had not known that before arriving but instead chose the location because of its rating on Tabelog and proximity to my hotel for a walk in the summer humidity. The Goyza was delicious, and experience lovely, so I understand the recommendation.

I’ve been knowing them for long time but I didn’t have opportunity to eat there. It was a rainy day there weren’t long cue. Finally I got into there to get set menu. It was so good. You can eat less than $10 to have a dinner, unbelievable. My dad accidentally flipped over a miso soup but a server immediately gave him a complimentary of another. We were really appreciate it. While I was waiting outside, I recommended to a couple from France. They had no idea about Gyoza but after eating they liked them. Gyoza would be famous in France, woulnt they? I’ll definitely go back to there. The restaurant is quite small, you may need to wait but worth to go there.

Really great gyoza! My boyfriend liked it so much he ordered an additional 6 to go with his set of 12. Do note that when you’re there at a peak timing (when there’s a queue), you have to write your name and group size down on a paper at the door. Was there at about 8pm and had no idea as I was further away from the door! Thankfully the Japanese behind us were understanding when we told them we didn’t write our names, and they explained to the staff to let us go first 😂 Would recommend their whiskey highball as well (sweet version) if you don’t want something too strong. Definitely a must-try when you’re in Kyoto!

Worst experience we have had in Japan. To begin with, they make you write your name and the num of pax on a waiting list. No problem with that, the problem was that the waiting area was extremely warm and with zero ventilation. After 30 min of waiting, and the restaurant having not one but THREE EMPTY DIRTY TABLES I asked if we could wait inside while they cleaned them as we were next in list and I was about to faint from the heat. They refused to let us wait inside while they slowly cleaned the tables. So add 10 more minutes to the wait and me feeling dizzy. When they finally cleaned the tables and allowed us in, we ordered the beer and gyoza set meal. Gyozas were at best standard, not bad but nothing special and definitely not worth...
