Ogane — Restaurant in Kyoto

Recommended by my Japanese colleagues and it was love at first bite. The anago was really fresh - the flesh is firm with a slight bounce yet tender and deep fried in batter, the crunch adds a new layer of texture to the anago. As lunch is supposed to be a quick and economic affair, the lunch menu is fixed with a few set meals.

Dinner was better than lunch as you get more choice and everything was delicious. One should really try the steamed anago... it's really fresh and the meat is so tender and fluffy.

The sake offering was great too... there's one particular sake that came from a wine marker. Very unique and refreshing in taste. Ask the chef for recommendation.

Ordered Sashimi and Tempura. Only sashimi arrived. Which could be considered a pleasant starter (we shared it, even though even 1 person would have seen this as a starter not a main). Having eaten in a number of different restaurants in the past ranging from Michelin stars to street food I have to admit this was the worst I’ve had. We asked for the bill after waiting with our empty plates and empty sake for close to 50 minutes with no sign of the other meal. There wasn’t even more than 4 people in the establishment so it can’t be said it was busy which is why they forgot an entire meal and just avoided people like the plague. I would avoid. Maybe I had too much expectations on this restaurant, I was so looking forward to have dinner here. Especially the high recommendation on Google map. But the moment I got in this place. I already have a feeling that the eel here is just so so. Just as I expected, normal quality with normal service. I am already regretted to waste...
