HARBS — Restaurant in Kyoto

I had a very disappointing experience at HARBS in Daimaru, Kyoto tonight. My family ordered a few slices of cakes from HARBS, right before eating we discovered that the cake contained alcohol in it and we don’t want our daughter to consume any food with alcohol in it. So we decided not to eat them in front of our toddler daughter because my toddler daughter can't enjoy them with us. We politely asked the waitress whether we can take them home so we can eat at home. Please note that we hadn’t touch the cake. They wouldn’t allow us to take the cake home, they insisted to order them again as "to go" at the front desk. I could understand some restaurant might not want you to bring left over food home, but we did not even touch them. I became very upset and explained to the waitress that our daughter shouldn't consume alcohol at her age. Unfortunately, they couldn't accommodate our request, so we left the cake and the restaurant feeling extremely disappointed. I hope this was a misunderstanding. Otherwise, I'm truly disappointed with this...

First time trying Harbs’ fruit and fresh cream cake was at a department store in Tokyo, as a takeaway order . The cake has a rich, delicious taste that isn’t greasy, with distinct layers and a delightful surprise in every bite.

Price and Portion The cake is priced at about 1100 yen, which is considered good value for a high-end fruit cake.The portion is generous and satisfying.

Kyoto Branch Experience At the Kyoto branch, it is mandatory for every customer to order a drink even I had order each person a cake. The drinks are relatively expensive (800 yen per cup) and are average in taste, which negatively affects the overall experience.

Overall Impression The cake’s quality and the thoughtfully paired fruits left a positive impression. However, the experience with the drinks and the forced drink policy was viewed...

Discovered Harbs during our first Tokyo trip 12 years ago. Had to get it again.

Cakes are as lovely as we can remember. Today was our first time having the cake on site.

Drinks are sophisticated... We were warned that my honey lemon tea soda would take 20 to 30min. It took a little bit more than that. It was great indeed. But I am still a little bit surprised by the time it took to get to this result.

Great place to slowly enjoy a beautifully crafted cake with a sip of your choice of tea. Don't go in a hurry.
