ilifune — Restaurant in Kyoto

Not many knows about this Kyoto-style trattoria, distant from tourist attractions, mostly serving the neighbors and foodies lucky enough to find this joint. The menu changes frequently and they all feature rich flavors from the ingredients, yet elegantly balanced, hence "Kyoto-style." The specialty dishes are roasted game meats (such as venison, wild boar, and duck) paired with house made mustard sauce with seasonal fruits, such as apple or fig. The menu is all in Japanese and the chef does not speak foreign language but you can now order Omakase from ¥5,000 per person. You can pair Italian wines or select local sake that chef Okamura chose for mariage....

My boyfriend found this restaurant on maps and we decided to book the 10 course tasting menu. The restaurant itself wasn’t busy so we weren’t sure what to expect, however this tasting menu was absolutely delicious! There was such a variety of dishes, flavours and styles of food. It was a lovely experience to sit at the counter and watch the chef do his work! Value for money was incredible for 2 people to try the 10 course tasting menu & 4 glasses of wine coming to £67 total! The full course on Christmas Eve was wonderfully crafted and presented. The owner chef produces excellent Italian flavors with a local flair.
