Kaerunouta — Restaurant in Kyoto

As I made haste to Mikane-jinja Shrine to avoid an ever increasing rainstorm. I passed by a tea shop with a wonderful aroma emanating from the front door. On return from the Shrine, I had to stop on in to give the café a try.

The café conveyed a sense of professionalism with a fun froggy theme. Frogs and toads were all throughout the store with the bartender waiting patiently for me to order.

I tried the Sakura special coffee with pasta and both were quite exceptional. The coffee had a rich taste and the pasta was delicious. I recommend sitting at the bar as I was able to watch the bartender grind and mix the various beans, drip filter the coffee and ensure the temperature was just right for drinking...

I came to this café with my small child, who urgently needed the restroom. We were told we had to place an order first — which felt unreasonable. I agreed to buy a chocolate muffin to go and said I’d pay right away.

My child couldn’t wait any longer, so we quickly used the restroom. When we came out, I repeated that I’d like the muffin to go. The staff member coldly said food must be eaten inside. I explained I couldn’t stay — my family was waiting and we were in a hurry.

His response? He raised his voice and shouted, “Go out!” — not even trying to be polite.

That kind of behavior is unacceptable and unprofessional. I won’t be coming back.
