My partner and I stayed here in February, and among the things we miss most from our trip to Japan, is the Kyoto Kamanza Hotel! After our train ride into Kyoto from Tokyo, we were pleasantly surprised that the manager had upgraded us to a 2-queen suite. The room was large and modern, equipped with a large wardrobe and a separate bench for laying out our suitcases. The bathroom was perfect, including tons of toiletries, double vanities, and a split shower room with huge bathtub (I'm 6'2" and could stretch out).
Being a slightly smaller property (fewer than 12 rooms if I remember correct) you could sense the attention and care paid to each room and guest. The manager and day staff were always at the front desk to offer directions, recommendations, etc. The size also meant it was essentially silent during our entire visit, with no other guest noise.
The hotel was conveniently located, only a five minute walk and five minute train ride to Kyoto Station which made it extra easy to enjoy day trips to Nara and Osaka. It was also less than twenty minute walks from tons of must-sees (Nishiki Market, Ponto-Cho Alley, Nijo Castle, the Imperial Palace, Ninezaka/Sanenzaka, and many many shrines).
The highest recommendations I can give in Kyoto are for this hotel, and the bakery just two blocks away, at which we ate multiple mornings (Flip-Up Bakery,...
Read moreWe spent a night at the Kamanza Hotel and had a wonderful time! The room was very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, with a mixture of traditional Japanese artistic elements and Western style amenities. In addition, the room was clean, spacious, and quiet at night. We had two young girls with us and the hotel was very child friendly. Sam, the hotel manager, was a fantastic resource for us, with an extensive knowledge of Kyoto and excellent English skills, and he helped us with planning out our stay, recommending restaurants such as Maya, where we had a great breakfast just steps away from the hotel, and also helping us understand the history and culture of Kyoto. I doubt if many hotels in the city have someone like Sam on staff to make one's stay in Kyoto so pleasant and successful. The hotel is small and accessible, and provides an excellent base to explore Kyoto and the surrounding areas, without being in a more crowded and busy location. We would happily recommend it and look forward to staying at...
Read moreWow. We loved this hotel. After the crowds and noise of Tokyo, we were happy to stay at this hotel which is in a quiet residential neighborhood. This is a very small hotel with 10 rooms. We were given a very large room (suite 203). I have not seen the other rooms but they were smaller. Our room had 2 large beds, a sitting area, a very large bathroom, 2 sinks, large counter, large shower (wet room) and a separate toilet. The beds were very comfortable (our best in Japan), the drapes were opaque allowing for darkness in the room in the morning. Even if this hotel is in a quiet area, we had easy direct access to many tourist places (Arashiyama, golden temple, Fushimi Irani, Nara, etc) by bus or metro with just a few minutes walking. The area also has restaurants, grocery, convenient store within a few minutes walk. Hotel was able to receive and send our luggage with Yamoto. We stayed 8 days as we used this hotel as our base to visit Kyoto and surrounding areas. Thank you so much for such...
